Dion should go also.

How bout this.

Toronto - dion, kadri and conner brown

Edmonton - eberle, aulie

1.) 21 Oct 2014
As EDM I'd take it in a heartbeat. Bad trade for TOR

2.) 21 Oct 2014
Dion, Lupul, Jonsson
for
Eberle, Aulie

3.) 21 Oct 2014
How is that bad for toronto if they are bale to get rid of that salary?

4.) 21 Oct 2014
And who keeps your defense together?
Who plays 2C?

5.) 21 Oct 2014
With this trade they'd have a even better to tank. If this is the plan, then okay.

6.) 21 Oct 2014
Keeps defence together?? Are u kidding me. Have you been watching the games? He is a pylon that makes a lot of cash. I would take the c from him right now. First game for one example the goal pac scored he walked by dion like nothing. This is our captain?? U guys have to wake up now

7.) 21 Oct 2014
Let's be honest do you really think they perform better whitout Dion? I think they would suck even more.

8.) 21 Oct 2014
I think it would be better without him. He is not as mobile as some of the other guys.

theres no way the toronto D would be ebtter without dion, you just dislike him because its cool to hate on him and suggest taking the C from him. like the C means anythign in today's game. itspretty mcuh given to a guy who can take the media atttention when they're going good and bad and not have it affect their play. the real leaders don't need letters anymore.

Paozzola, you are one of those guys who recently started watching sports such as hockey and always yells at the tv, at the defence or goalie parts of teams. I bet

11.) 21 Oct 2014
Belaf and shanker.i think u guys know what your saying to be honest. And beleaf
I have been a leafs fans all my life difference from me to you is I can say the truth. Dion is not good. And that theory u gave about the C is terrible doesn't affect their play?? Well when u play bad each night as dion does them I guess it does not matter right?? I am just saying they need to get rid of him
and his salary

12.) 22 Oct 2014
22 Oct 2014 01:35:43
you are definately one of the guys that just hates phaneuf for the sake of doing it, too bad guys like you get more attention than the leaf fans that actually know hockey.

13.) 22 Oct 2014
^ There are days I wish Toronto would get rid of Dion, just so the Dion haters can watch what would happen to the Leafs d-core.

He is NOT Doughty or Weber or any of those upper echelon d-men. But he's hardly the slouch people make him out to be.

14.) 22 Oct 2014
Listen you guys I am just saying that is a problem on this defence that toronto wants which is a mobile defence. OK he is flat footed a lot and is caught half the time. Does he use up good minutes. Yes. Has he done good things in the pas YES. I am just saying for what e are paying job I think we can do better. What u arm chair gms fair to understand is this is a business now a days and we don't see the reprocustin as much with toronto cuz.tjey make tons of cash no matter win or lose. But the ROI is not there with dion now.

if you want to talk in a strictly economical mindframe then you cannot simply compare dions deal to any that was signed before the last cba. as you should know the way contracts can be structed has greatly changed because of it, this mainy affects the teams best players as they were the ones getting the 15 year deals.

now, let's compare dion's to defensemen who signed thi offseason. would you rather have dion @ 7 mil per or orpik at 5.5? dion, easily. niskanen @ 5.25 over dion @7? I don't think so either, but that one is much loser than orpik obviously. those are the only 2 I can think of off the top of m head, but either way there is a relatively limited amount you can compare him to since this is only the2nd full year fo the new cba being in force.

16.) 23 Oct 2014
What did u not like about niskanen??. the fact he was a plus 33 last year? or the fact that he scored 10goals and got like 50 points?? Yes your right that is much worse then dion. Buddy are u kidding me?? Come parents any and every ztat.u can then let's look at both their salaries. Then we can be the judge. If u ask me miskanen.had a better year

17.) 23 Oct 2014
Sorry @paolozza, but dion, considering his circumstances is a really good player.

statistically, he plays against the highest quality of competition in the nhl. He also statistically highest percentage of defensive zone starts, meaning he plays against the opponents top lines, a majority of the time in his own zone.

He plays top link PK, PP, and upwards of 23 minutes a game regularly and was given the "C" in the toughest hockey market to play in.

He was drafted 9th overall, was a member of multiple WJC teams and was a norris trophy candidate when paired with a credible defensive defenseman.

clearly the guy is poorly and over used by the leafs, and formerly the flames after his norris-candidate season.

you do realize niskanen had only 1 good year, right? or is last year the etent of your hockey knowledge? dion has proven over the course of many seasons to be a top pair defenseman in the NHL, niskanen did it for 1 year.

also I knw you'll challenge that dion isn't a top pair defenseman because you hate him so much, so please name 60 defenseman better than him.

19.) 23 Oct 2014
It is not the fact that I hate the guy so let me repeat myself for all you guys who don't listen. I am just in saying that for the money we are paying him I think we can do better. And that is an opinion. Simple economics he ain't cutting it for 7 million a year

thats the only argument people have: he makes too much money.

like I said before, you cannot compare his edal to the guys simply in his earnings bracket (eg. weber, etc.) because they signed their deal before the lokout. if you want to compare actual dollars that you can somewhat do, even though that won't be totally accurate either.
