MTL- C.Stewart D.Stafford, M.Foligino

BUF- D.Desharnais, Z.Fucale, PA.Parenteau, M.Reway

IMO, MTL was considering Stewart and Stafford. I may be crazy, but that is a very good opening offer. Drop Fucal (he may be better, but I think Murray has enough of GK prospects) and replace him with Jacob de la Rose. What would lines look like after this trade? I am not familiar with MTL lines from last year, would that reunite DD with Gionta?

One reason I do not like that trade, it would make BUF better this year. Stewart is being mishandled so he is not contributing much. Foligno has been hurt so he has not done much and Stafford is playing 2nd line (why, who knows).

Initially I had a different spin on this trade, but given a chance to more closely compare the players involved, (I know that I am a Sabres fan) but I believe MTL needs to add, significantly.
Stewart >>Desharnais (27 v 28 yo, 120 v 56 career goals, 240 v 184 career pts, DD lower cap hit, Stewart is way more physical)
Stafford>>>Parenteau (29 v 31 yo, 142 v 79 career goals, 318 v 220 career pts, identical cap hits, Stafford is more physical)
Foligno => Fucale (Foligno is a very Physical LW Fucale is a GK prospect who is not performing that well in Juniors 3.2 GAA, .890SV%)
So two BUF players are younger, have scored more, are larger and more physical than the returns
Reway really does not makes up the difference. MTL would need to offer two from Artturi Lehkonen, Nikita Scherbak and Jacob de la Rose instead of Fucale and Reway
I am willing to be convinced if my opinion is inaccurate. Please remember those Sabres are playing for the worse NHL head coach. The "Village Motivator" assembled a top line of 3 left handed shots that have scored 6 goals and 12 points combined in the last 13 games. He benches Stewart for lack of effort. Stewart gets 4th line minutes but has the 4th highest shots on goal.

After tonights game, it is 6goals, 6 assists in the last 14 games, what a great head coach. BTW 7 shg against with only 4 ppg for the year. The team is -3 goals when they have the man advantage, sounds like another Jack Adams award to me.

I think Stewart could be good for the Habs. Deharnais a third round pick and a prospect like Lekhonen would be fair.
