Edmonton

To Lighting: 2015 1st RD (PIT), Rights To Marco Roy (2013 2nd round draft pick)

To Edmonton: Jason Garrison, Valteri Filpulla, 2015 3rd

Explanation: Edmonton, has 2 first round picks in the draft. One, first overall, other 16th. Instead of selecting a defence-man at 16 and wait 2-4 years we could easily acquire a top 4 defencemen.
Lighting are desperate for cap space, in total they gain 9.6 million in cap space. Lighting need cap space to sign players like Drouin, Kucherov and Vasilevsky.
Edmonton gets a top 4 defenceman, and a #2/3 line center.

OR

To Maple Leafs: 2015 1st (PIT), Marco Roy, Mitch Moroz
To Edmonton: 2015 1st (TOR)

Explanation: Leafs get 2 prospects with decent size and have very good leadership. At best, they can turn out to be 2nd line forwards. Both very smart players and can go on the PP/PK. Pitsburghs 2015 1st round pick is still pretty early in the draft.

As a Lightning fan I'm ok with trading those players (while I believe they will try to move Carle over Garrison). I also think that with the weak FA market (especially in centers) they could get more for that package. I'd love a mid first but a top 6 center top 4 d and a 3rd is too much for that pick and an ok prospect in Roy

I like the Tampa bay trade, the Toronto one is terrible

1. We are NOT in cap trouble right now. Just FYI, Kucherov has 1 more year at his ELC, Drouin and Vasilevki both have 2 more years on their ELC. What's the point of bringing them up here?
I said that a couple times before, when the new Stamkos contract kicks in, TB will get rid of the 1.6m they retained on Gagner. They might be able to trade Bishop after next year, if Vasya is ready to overtake the starting gig.
2. Carle is 100% more likely to be moved before Garrison. Plays worse, gets paid more, more term.
3. The idea isn't bad, it's just that its not really necessary after this season. If at all, it will be after next year. Coburn contract will be up by then, and Carle will move before Garrison does. Lots of yound D coming up in the system that will be ready to overtake (Nesterov, Koekkoek, DeAngelo, Witkowski, whoever)
Just don't see a need to trade Filppula while not having cap trouble right now. Only guys to be resgined for next year will be Namestnikov, Sustr, Witkowski and Barberio (latter two rather extras/SYR-bound right now)
