no stop with the phanuef to edm trades its annoying. i'm not saying that phanuef sucks its just that his cap is too much especially for an oiler team that has to pay mcdavid klefbon marincin nurse and yakapov in near future think before you post

That's a bad trade
Take out both picks from edmonton and retain some of phaneufs salary
Edm: nikitin, scrivens, drastail(oilers are not trading him Chiarelie loves the kid and he should )

Tor: phaneuf( 2.5 mil retained), bernier, 24th, 95th

Now oilers might consider

At least 6 years people.
So stop with all that salary crap and they can't afford it, Edmonton will go hard after Phaneuf believe it, forward isn't the problem, Defence and Goal is the issue in Edmonton and getting rid of Nikitin (buyout if they don't Trade him) for Phaneuf and swapping Scrivens for JBernier is a step forward not back for Edmonton, Gauthier doesn't have the Top 6 potential as Draisaitl but Edmonton is fine at the Top 6 and Gauthier is a "Big" Centre just like Draisaitl but will be perfect as a 2 way Centre behind McDavid and RNH, Toronto is giving Edmonton right away upgrade so the Draft Picks are a must in this Trade.
So really this is a Trade that does make sense.

1. We don't want phauneuf with that contract 7 million for a top 2 defencemen who isn't that great either no thanks
2. Why would we move drastail RELAX people he can move to the wing we finally have size in our top six ( well were almost there ) and you guys think we're trading it for a over payed top 3-4 dman and a starting goalie not to mention the fact we move back in the deepest draft since 2003 seems like a bad trade to me
3. I'm sorry but I watched gauthier in the chl playoffs he isn't looking like a top 9 forward I see a 4th line centre imo
4. Edmonton can easily sign a defencemen in free agency just as good as phaneuf for less term and money
5. So to recap edmonton moves down in a VERY deep draft they move there top prospect (at the moment) in draisatail and there back up goalie they also retain salary on a defencemen when they can just wait a year and let him walk in return they get a overpayed top 2-3 defencemen who still has a lot of term and a starting goalie plus a b level prospect
6. The thing with this trade is that edmonton has wayyyyyy better options than this, they can get a better package for drastail alone
7. Last thing mcdavid and nurse will get paid big bucks right out of there entry level deals so it'll only be 3 years
