Teams put tremendous value on 1st Round picks. The frequency of them being traded is way down, NHL gems have been quoted saying that the currency around the league is becoming 2nd round picks. Unless you're acquiring a star player or in some situations a top-six forward a 1st Round pick could be warranted but only if they have term. Plekanec could fetch a late 1st if the team is extremely desperate for a center but I don't see it happening, the point production isn't there.
