Ah Trade Deadline day. Everyone's favourite day. So Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and even Ottawa to an extent made moves helping their teams for the future. I say all fan bases should be happy. Then there's Vancouver. Now I don't want you guys to have to read me ranting forever so I'll try to keep it somewhat short and sweet.

Here's my takes on the Dan Hanhuis situation from what I've read and heard.

Now to start Hamhuis had a NTC before Benning came in as GM and I believe he only wanted to go to a contender that was to far away from his family. Among those were Chicago, Dallas and maybe LA.

Dallas liked Russel over Hamhuis - Thought he was a cheaper option

Dallas thought Calgary wanted to much.

Dallas came back to Vancouver for Hamhuis and offered a similar package that Russel got.

My understanding is there was a deal in place with sending Hamhuis Dallas but apperently here's the interesting part, they went to the owners with the deal and the owners said hey no we want more or try to get more something along those lines.

Dallas then pretty much said no screw you guys we offered you a fair deal and said we're going back to Calagry and offered them the package that Calgary eventually took.

Another note the owner of the Stars tried to buy the Canucks back in 2004 I believe. The Acquilines (Canucks owners) have been rumoured to have a rivalry with Dallas now and may have wanted the stars to pay a premium.

So the Canucks backed themselves up into a corner and got the owners involved when making a personal decision.
Management really needs to step away from the GM and let him do his job. Why would they hire Benning if they had no faith in him?

Also
Could the Canucks really not get anything for Vrbata? A 4th? Even a 6th.
Stempniak got a 2nd and 4th
Purcell got a 3rd
Hudler got a 2nd and 4th
Stall got 2 2nds and prospect
Just some comparables

I know Vrbata had a LNMC but I'm sure there was 1 or 2 teams that woulda paid a mid round pick for him. Benning did say he had no offers for Vrbata but still c'mon man. I thought it was critical for the Canucks to make a trade weather that be Hamhuis or even Vrbata for a 7th.

Now watching what Lou Lamarelo (sorry for spelling) has done getting the most out of a deal. Now this is just me being crazy but I'm sure if Lou had Hamhuis and Vrbata he would have been able to make a deal happen.

Bottem line is Canucks as an organization tried to play the market today and it backfired.
I feel like Montrealfinest now haha.

I believe TSNs Farhan Larhi tweeted about the situation. Also listened to Jason Botchner of the Vancouver sun comment on his view of the Hanhuis situation.

I too am a Canucks fan bj, but honestly if I am gm for another team in league I would not give even a 7th Rd pick for Vrbata. I am sure other teams have seen him float and sulk all season.
Have heard through a reliable reporter in bc that a water bottle was offered for him.
