Oilers: 4th overall

Predators: Ellis + 17th overall

Saw this in an article, not too sure if Ellis and the 17th pick is worth the 4th, but Oilers get a good dman in Ellis and still a decent pick. IMO I think Oilers pass on this but I could be wrong.

Ya I think 17th is dropping a bit too low for the Oilers likes, and I question if Nashville would trade Ellis seeming that he has that great contract and they have already moved a defender in Seth Jones.

The 17th is Nashville's best pick so that's why it's there, and I agree maybe preds could add to it. 4th overall is very intriguing this year and could create a lot of buzz.

The article also then suggested something along lines of that 14th overall and another minor piece for vatanen.

The 4th overall for both Ellis and Vatanen would be good for oilers.

@yup

I pretty positive it was:

Ellis + 17th for 4th Overall

17th overall for Vatanen

So yes Oilers end up with Ellis and Vatanen for then 4th and 17th pick.

But is Ellis or Vatanen a top line D man? I'm unsure.

Guys the 4th overall this year is a considerable drop off in talent from 1-3 so why is it significant it doesn't even produce a sure thing or a nhl ready player. The only reason it is significant is because the oilers own it.

I think you are over estimating what they mean by drop off. Strome was a drop off from Eichel and McDavid last year. It doesn't mean Strome will not be a sure thing. The top three in this draft are potential superstars, while others have a chance to be all stars. The "drops offs" in this draft seem to be as follows

1-3
4-12
13-14
15-22
23-37

Meaning players in those ranges have equal talent levels.

That's the dumbest thing I've read all week. "The only reason it is significant is because the oiler own it"
That's right in delusional Montrealsfinest area man, Don't go full retard. Never go full retard.
The 4th (assuming it is now Tkuchuk) is very valuable NO MATTER WHO OWNS THAT PICK.
That is the dumbest oilers-hate thing I think I have am ever read in my life.
If Carolina owned the 4th pick you would probably be praising how great Tkuchuk would be for them.
It is not a "considerable" drop of in talent at all.
Get a clue man.
