Devils logic: they have the cap space to bring in Datsyuk and would be more than happy to have Mantha.

Detroit logic: Merrill was a star playing at Michigan and was supposed to be a first round pick before disciplinary actions at school. The 2nd and 3rd will help them find a replacement for Mantha and they also get huge cap savings to go after a big-time free agent like Okposo or Stamkos.

So new jersey gives up assets that are worth more than Mantha alone but now they have to take on the 7.5 mil cap hit also. DEVILS SAY NO BIG TIME.

I actually really like this. The only thing that I would do because I think the Devils give up a tad too much is that I would change the pick to either Boston's in 2017 or Florida's in 2018 and maybe change the 3rd to a 4th this year just due to how big Datsyuk's contract is. But great job by the op. The trade that I had in mind would be so it would look something like this
Devils get Datsyuk and Mantha
Wings get Merrill, 2017/ 18 2nd, 2016 4th.
