I've heard many rumours about the Leafs being very interested in Kris Russel. Is it just me or would this be a terrible signing for the leafs?

Horrible signing, especially for the amount of dollars I have heard being thrown around. He's a 4-5 d man. Anyone who signs him long term will regret it.

Russell is going to end up Matt Carle 2.0. On this next contract people will realize how bad he really is. He blocks shots sure but blocking shots means your giving up shot attempts.

Matt carle doesn't block nearly as many shots must be a way better player.

Honestly the difference between Carle and Russell is probably more in reputation than anything. Neither can get the puck and get it out of their end. Neither can score much. Russell is a bottom pairing Dman but because he blocks shots people want to pay him like a solid top 4. He'll get exposed on this next contract. I'd be interested to see what his shot block% is to see if he is actually blocking a ton more shots compared to other players or is just giving up a ton more and therefore blocking more.

I read the Leafs were ready to overpay for Russell too.
They signed polka Polak today.
