Did anyone watch the top 4 under 24 tsn show last night by Craig Button and Frank Cereveli? They rank the best group of 4 under the age of 24 of each team.
What surprised me the most was they had STL ranked 29th.
27. NSH - Tolvanen, Saros, Fiala, Fabbro.
28. Minn - Kaprizov, Greenway, Johanssen, Eriksson.
29. STL - Thomas, Fabbri, Kyrou, Dunn.
30. LAK - Vilardi, Kupari, Kempe, Anderson-Dolan.
31. PIT - Jarry, Sprong, Addison, Bellerive.

Tonight's show is ranking the top 50 players under the age 24. They said there's a clear cut number one and there was an argument about number two. Could they think Petterson has moved up into the conversation?

Lol oops. This was supposed to be a post not a comment. Sorry to hijack the thread Dmt. I don't think Mathews is available anyways 😉.

Yupp I agree that’s insane they are so low in the list, but I do like the team who was ranked #1 🤪
As for this post ya no this trade isn’t possible lol.

Maybe McKinnon is in that talk now at number two?
Who else should be up top ten under 24. Few come to mind are McDavid Mathews McKinnon Peterson Pasternak
In no particular order. Liane Eichel Drai Marner be up there. Who else.

6.) 15 Nov 2018

Rantanen.

Prov and Barzal come to mind.

Imo the tiers are (no orders in the tiers)

McDavid
—
Matthews
MacKinnon
Petterson
—
Eichel
Laine
Pasta
Rantanen
—
Prov
Marner
Barzal
Drais
—.

I agree with most of what you saying TSS. I'm just not sure I have Petterson in that group yet.
Hes well on his way, no doubt about that, but I just want to see how he manages in a long NHL season, he's had one of the best starts to a career anyone has had. but. let's see I he can keep it up

Also. how old is Barkov. I may have him in the tier with Eichel.

9.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 16:04:13
I think the argument at 2 will be Mathews and MacKinnon, which shouldn't be any argument at all. Quite clear MacKinnon is superior to Mathews.

10.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 16:24:47
Topshelf that list is really good I agree with it exactly.

11.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 16:25:23
Ah ya Barkov. He'll be up there too! Funny I just overlook and forget about him. And he was just voted (I'm pretty sure by the players) as the most underrated guy in the league.
Rantanen is now of course up there.

What about under 25 D man, in the league now and not in the league now. Seth Jones under 24 still?

And crap, not to bring up the Leafs and get into an argument now but the 4 under 24 list they should each teams top ten under 24 in the system and they had Sandin ranked one higher than Lilgiren. I found that interesting because I'm a fan of Lilgiren but not gmail oar with Sandin.

12.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 18:17:24
@ yupp There is always some crazy things in any list craig button is a part of. But I actually like sandin a little more then lillegren too.

13.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 18:51:51
Ya man I've never been a fan of Button.
These lists are just his opinions with Frank Ceraveli. And they do their homework and have been scoping all these guys for many years now even before they were drafted. I'll take the list with a grain of salt and of course have differences in opinion.

14.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 20:29:52
I think TSS list is really good. Barkov could be in there. Him and Mackinnon are both still 23 and even though the same draft, Seth jones is a 1994 birthday, not 95 so he’s already 24 and just misses the cut off.

Pettersen has definitely had a start that should have him in the conversation, but I agree, let’s see that one again next season or after 60NHL games and check his pace. The way he creates offense, I wouldn’t be shocked if he can keep it up, but wouldn’t betvthe farm on it yet either

Also with regards to Liljegren/ Sandin I think they’re probably interchangeable on that list but Sandin was better in his first NHL camp this year than Liljegren was in his 2nd, so people have kind of fallen in love with the idea he’s further ahead and better. A year apart, a lefty and righty, if they both become top 4 guys, not stars i’ll Take it.

15.) 15 Nov 2018
15 Nov 2018 20:31:50
Imo Nylander should be in they're before Pettersen atm because like Sosa said Pettersen just have a a exellent but very small sample. After another 30 games let's include I'm if he keeps it up.

16.) 15 Nov 2018

Just seen that Damien Cox a Toronto media guy on Twitter suggesting today that Toronto should trade Mathews. Saying that Tavares is playing so well why not sign Marner and Nylander and trade Mathews for a whole pile of goodies, He says not that they would but it's not a crazy idea anymore. And this idea is because of the Tavares signing and how well he is playing. Suggests something. Significant that helps now and is under contract for at least 3 years plus something else significant that is just starting ELC.
Does any Leaf fan out there agree with that? Would any one actually also suggest this.

Barkov is going to be such a sick two way force. completeky forgot about him, mainky yes because he does play in Florida lol but also because I never realized how young the guy is.
He plays with such a veteran style and yet is the same age as Mack. Hard to believe imo.
Glad you guys liked my tiers tho. if i was adding Barkov, he's in that Eichel group as well imho.

And for me, i absoluteky love Timmy, so i think Likjegren>Sandin atm, but they both coukd be promising. From reports tho, I've heard that liljegren is struggling slighlt (not points wise, but dzone coverage wise) to start this year in the AHL. Maybe that factored imto it? idk.

16 Nov 2018 00:10:24
Totally agree with EP as well. He has a big hype train around him, i don't kmow if he tapers off but i feel like with sedins leaving him and boeser became such a big deal in Vancouver (not saying its unwarranted, no, but Barzal had the same kind of start in NYI, just less coverage so he never got spoke about) .

19.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 00:34:27
Just don’t think you ever win a trade when Matthews goes the other way. We waited too long for a player like him to trade him already. I can see the logic he’s trying to explain, I don’t see it ever happening and I wouldn’t want it to happen.

20.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 04:17:11
I’d rather keep the center depth even though Matthews injuries are a concern. Pittsburgh has proven for years that you can put almost anyone with a good center and they will produce. Not this year of course, I don’t know what’s going on in Pittsburgh. Kapanen was tearing it up playing with Matthews. Leafs need him back but I think they’d have to at least consider a bridge deal to make sure he can stay healthy.

21.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 05:21:03
I've been saying for months. trade Mathews lol. Leafs 17. you can't compare the Leafs to the situation in Pittsburgh. they have one and you could almost say 2 generational talents . Tavares is really damn good. and Mathews has shown he is in spurts.

22.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 06:47:04
Crosby/ Malkin are definitely better Sosa but Tavares/ Matthews are pretty much PPG players. I think I could put up 20 goals playing with either of them, lol. The key I guess to trading Matthews that I forgot to mention would be a legit #1 dman.

23.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 11:49:10
A bridge deal would be too nice for the team but no way at all Mathews agent agrees to a bridge deal. He's going to get max term and so much money.

24.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 12:06:12
Yes a bridge deal would be too nice. Still no way I’d trade Matthews. The thought of a #1 dman and maybe more in return is interesting but if he can stay healthy I think it would be a mistake.

25.) 16 Nov 2018

Since they got Tavares, I have been saying. send the kid home., to Arizona, for OEL. And Arizona would have to add. if Chayka says no. well then the damn league should remove him. let alone his GM firing him.
This deal would be good for the league., make Toronto a more well rounded team, and make Arizona a relevant team.

26.) 16 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018 18:12:10
I wouldn't be shocked if Matthews ends up in Arizona at some point in his career (if they still have a team), but I don’t think he wants to go now and be on a bad team. He wants to win. And obviously he makes them better, but if OEL+ goes the other way, that’s the next best piece leaving. If people don’t think leafs can compete till they get better D, what chance does Arizona have with that team by just adding Matthews and subtracting OEL and more? None.

Players always say the right thing and say they want to stay where they are and want to re-sign. But Matthews was on the spittin chiclets podcast with Ryan Whitney (side note, very entertaining, check it out) and said how he actually has stayed up at night thinking about what it would be like to win in Toronto because of the fan base and the generations that haven’t seen it and that that motivates him and wants nothing more than to win here. For a guy that isn’t overly revealing to the media in most cases and gives pretty stoic interviews, that feels pretty honest.

Considering he technically could be justified in asking more than mcdavid with almost 10 mill cap rose between their signings, I think he will leave a bit of money on the table and sign long term within the next few months. My guess is more than tavares, less than mcdavid. 8x$11.75-$12. Could be way off and he may ask $13.5 though.
