With the St.Louis Blues signing Paul Stastny, they now have 7 Centers on 1 way contracts battling for the top 4 spots down the middle, With Backes, Stastny and Ott most likely obtaining the top 3, and Lindstrom, Lapierre or Lehtera grabbing the 4th line position, I think this makes Patrick Berglund expendable and up for grabs. Now, if the Blues were ever to trade Berglund, I personnally think it would be for another Top 4 Defensemen, preferably an Offensive D. The name that comes up to mind is Cody Franson of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

To Toronto:
Patrick Berglund
Chris Butler

To St.Louis:
Cody Franson
2015 3rd Round Pick

Leafs Lineup:
VanRiemsdyk-Bozak-Kessel
Kadri-Berglund-Lupul
Booth-Kontiola-Clarkson
Winnik-Komarov-Santorelli/Frattin

Phaneuf-Robidas
Gardiner-Butler
Rielly-Polak

Blues Lineup:
Steen-Backes-Oshie
Tarasenko-Stastny-Schwartz
Paajarvi-Ott-Lindstrom
Lehtera-Lapierre-Reaves/Porter

Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Jackman-Shattenkirk
Gunnarsson-Franson

1.) More like Cody franson,2016 2nd round pick, josh leivo too st.louis IMO.Not enough from toronto otherwise good post

2.) I posted a Berglund for Franson trade back in the spring. I liked the idea of that swap. I think St.Louis declines, but it's the start of a good idea.

Personally I think St.Louis could add an offensive d-man(maybe not with the same production, but he wouldn't be a slouch either) without giving up Berglund. Not to mention that Franson is a UFA at years end. So there is that to consider.

3.) I think, Edmonton might need him more. :P

4.) Could actually work but mueller should be in the lineup

5.) Good solid trade although the leafs might have to add a little bit more with Franson being a UFA

6.) Berglund no longer became expendable when Sobotka took off to the KHL. Besides, the Blues were looking for more than this package you're offering up just for Berglund alone. No reason to think they'd accept so little now. Blues say no.

7.) That st louis lineup is very good they will clearly be contenders this year

8.) I think if STL gets Franson they r going to have Leopold and Cole in the minors or scratched. So once they get Franson they can flip him to another team for a prospect and pick

9.) Why is berglund not expendable? Steve ott can play #3 center.

10.) I think Steve ott would be a better fit behind stastny and backes

11.) So many idiots^, how is this believeable? Not enough from toronto.good post (base) but anyone that clicked on believeable needs to go sit in the corner and think.quiet time.drgonzo is close but still not enough IMO

12.) Ott can play 3/4C, Berglund can play 2/3/4C. Ott is older, Berglund has a greater skill set. In my mind, between the two, it's Ott who is expendable if the Blues care about possession numbers at all (which I'd imagine they do). Berglund is no Sobotka, but he's certainly above Ott.

13.) I just looked up the word expendable, haha drgonzo is going to rip you a new one twirp. Berglund is better than ott and Berglund does have better position numbers.however St. Louis doesn't need him.

14.) LOL! You basically just said that I'm right and that gonzo is going to rip me a new one? got to love this mutual love you and gonzo share in going after me for no reason. You're certainly "enlightened." Good lord, you need a hobby.

15.) 1 go look up the word expendable
2 there Is a reason people go after you, you're a douche who makes statements without thinking or knowing what he's talking about.how many people have called you out on this in past week
3 @enlightened needs a new hobby because he googled the word expendable and learned what it means before using it is what you're saying.
4 wake up chirp. You don't contribute anything, clear to me that you come on here to crap on other peoples ideas. And you think I'm useless and enlightened needs a hobby ok bud

16.) Sorry, champ. Your incredible hockey skillz have brought me to my senses. I won't post here anymore. Instead, I'll go post on a leafs forum and forever delude myself and tra-la-la through meadows while offering up Reimer and Clarkson for Toews like all real things would be.

And there I'll have a user name like "DrGonzo" and expect to be taken seriously.
Gimme a break.

17.) Lmao chirp. Good comment.i think even if my trades were that unrealistic and bad you would have an example or two.looks like some bs about tra la la through meadows too me.i pity the fool

18.) 1 I said you were wrong.duh
2 rip you a new one = show you why you're wrong and how you're wrong
3 I don't love going after you, we have opinions+sometimes I disagree+you run you're mouth like a keyboard warrior=I enjoy showing you that you are wrong and the irrelevant replies from you are amusing
4 no reason.how can you be so thick.wow.its not just two people going after you chirp, the whole world is in on it.flr no reason
5 give me an example of why you are more enlightened than me and I'll change my name

As of right now the Leafs Lineup looks like:

VanRiemsdyk-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
N/A-Komarov-Frattin
N/A-Holland-N/A

Phaneuf-Gardiner
Rielly-Robidas
N/A-Polak

Bernier
N/A

**
Franson and Reimer are RFA's, still not signed and most likely heading out of Toronto.

Any ideas on what the Leafs will do to finish up their roster? Rumor is that the Leafs are interested in Steve Ott as a possible 3rd line center. Also the Maple Leafs 2014 1st Round Pick, William Nylander will have a shot at cracking the Leafs lineup next year and could possibly do so as a 2nd/3rd line Center or Winger. Post your ideas and thoughts.

Boucher11

1.) Komarov well be on the wing and holland will be 3rd line center

2.) Looks like leafs will give young players a chance Finn Percy granberg leivo Ashton Biggs battle for the remaining spots after they sign Steve Ott is my guess.

3.) JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clakson
Komarov - Ott - Selanne
Bissonnette - Holland - Frattin

Extra : Orr

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Polak
Robidas - McBain

Bernier
Thomas

Ott 3yr/8.25m
Selanne 1yr/2.5m
Bissonnette 2yr/2m
Thomas 1yr/2.25m

That team would have the most swag in the NHL.

4.) Phaneuf plays the right side and Gardiner plays the left side

5.) 03 Jul 2014 08:18:43
Hopefully they can land ott to play on there 3rd line with komarov and clarkson

6.) As it stands right now

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
Komarov-Holland-Frattin
Biggs-Smith-Ashton

Phanuef-Reily
Gardiner-Robidas
Polak-Granberg

It be kinda fun too look at the possible Leafs lineup if some of the trades that were rumored to happen fell through due to problems. Here is what the Leafs lineup would have been if the trades came through for the Leafs.

To Anaheim: Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo

To Toronto:
Chris Pronger

To Boston:
Tomas Kaberle

To Toronto:
Phil Kessel

To Philadelphia:
Tomas Kaberle

To Toronto:
Jeff Carter

To Philadelphia:
Nazem Kadri
Nikolai Kulemin

To Toronto: Mike Richards

To Montreal:
Cody Franson

To Toronto:
Josh Gorges

**
Tyler Seguin as the Leafs get 2nd Overall pick in 2010 NHL Entry Draft

Lineup:
VanRiemsdyk-Seguin-Kessel**
Lupul-Richards-Carter**
Komarov-Holland-Clarkson
Ashton-Mckegg-Leivo

Phaneuf-Pronger
Gorges-Gardiner
Rielly-Polak

I hope all you guys know that the Leafs will not be trading Dion Phaneuf! All they are doing is listening to offers on him and seeing what the market could be, just like most likely every other player in the league. The Leafs have clearly stated that they are looking to improve their Defensive core by adding defensive veteran talent. In seeing all these trade proposals including Phaneuf is ridiculous. Seeing that they will trade him to Florida for the 1st overall pick is far fetched. Even though if they did that trade and picked up Aaron Ekblad, then good for us because we just picked up a fer sure franchise defense. But the Leafs are in the time where they need to improve now and start becoming playoff contenders now. Dion Phaneuf is not the best defensemen in the NHL but he is one of the Leafs best,(with excluding Morgan Rielly), he plays 25+ minutes a night against the NHL top offensive players, and he shuts them down fairly well considering he was still a +2 this year. In trading Phaneuf, the Leafs will lose their defensive core completely with trading Phaneuf. Guys like Rielly, Gardiner, Franson etc. won't be able to hold up the Leafs defense for the year and the Leafs would just fall down to a top 10 first round pick. again. Another reason in trading Phaneuf, is that no NHL team will just hand you a defensemen to replace his minutes and abilities. You won't see Chicago give Toronto Brent Seabrook, Arizona give Keith Yandle, etc. The Leafs need to keep Phaneuf and build around him. He is the heart and soul of that blueline at the moment, with his work effort, powerplay, penalty kill, he plays everything. All the Leafs need to do is retool their defense a little and simply add a top pairing defense to Phaneuf and add some veteran grit and size to the bottom 6 defense. In saying so, Dan Boyle, Brooks Orpik would be the best options for Toronto. Trading Cody Franson, Tim Gleason and maybe even Jake Gardiner, depending the offer would be the best option for the Leafs so they can trade those pieces for some offensive help. In all I think the Leafs will keep Phaneuf and should even though he makes you want to get hit by a train sometimes, even for myself.

Boucher11

1.) He was very little value tho, maybe a 15-20th pick would be traded for phaneuf and a 6th pick

2.) He would get a good roster player and a pick

3.) The reason they are trying to trade him is so they don't get stuck with 7mil a year off their payroll when you could use that 7mil in a better way, its a money game

4.) TO ALL OF THE ABOVE:
Phaneuf has his faults but he will be very hard to replace and his 7 Mil will appear very ordinary as time goes by. The leafs had a complete breakdown from the Coach to the smallest player but Dion seem to take the majority of the blame.
I don't love Phaneuf but he has become the whipping boy for Leaf Fans most of whom know little to nothing about Hockey.
Firstly how do you replace his minutes. He needs his minutes reduced so he not a lame duck out there.
I believe he should never have been made captain, especially with his track record. What's done is done but maybe with Shanahans help Leafs can make the Phaneuf experience work.
