Detroit has a great draft in my opinion but they really missed in their 3rd round in Seth Barton. The guy does not stand a chance of making it to the NHL

I don’t know why I bother asking, besides curiousity and boredom, but how do you know that an 18 year old kid that professionals ranked as between 60-100th best hockey player in the world his age has a 0% chance of playing in the NHL?

Watched him play all year. Average BCHL Defensman. Played against him my whole life. Nothing special. Not 3rd round pick worthy.

Sounds like a jealousy thing. If you played against him, you can have your opinion, but I wouldn't trust your assessment over all the people that work for the scouting services, and all the NHL scouts, Ken Holland and the people he employs lol I played against a few guys growing up that made the NHL. And a cpl of them I remember back when we were 14-15 and they were definitely not way better than everyone else, some of them weren’t even the best on the team every year, but obviously scouts saw something in them they didn’t see in others and they were right. Obviously there’s busts, but these guys know what they’re doing a lot more than us.

I like the guy and all but you watch the other guys in the BCHL who were drafted and you can tell that they are good. Watching guys like Tychonik, Weatherby, Demin and so on. Watching Barton, he doesn’t stand out at all. Just an average BCHL d man who had a good first 10 games.

BCHL scouting report
Tyson Jost 10th to 15th overall
- Very smart, very skilled player. He is a little undersized and could work on his defensive game a little but is an elite offensive force with first line talent, but most likely a good 2nd liner
Dante Fabbro 15th to 20th
Unreal skater and passer. Plays great in the offensive zone and the defensive zone. His only defect is that he is not very physical and doesn't have a mean side. He should still make a great top 4 d man with potential to be a top 2-3 but most like top 4-5
Dennis Cholowski
2nd to 3rd rounder
Solid two way man. A little small but plays pretty tough. Not overly skilled but still a decent puck mover and pretty good passer. Could pass as a 6th d man but likely will be a 7th d/ injury call up
Matthew Phillips
5th to 6th round
Very underrated due to being only 5'6 140 but he is a great skater and has silky smooth hands. May be able to surprise some people and put up some points but he's a shot in the dark
Lastly, Brogan O' Brien
6th-7th rounder
Another kind of undersized guy at 5'11 but he doesn't play like it. Good two way player who could turn in to a good PK player. Nothing too special though.

Haven't seen a ton of Fabbro but from what I've seen he looks like he'll be a real good defencemen. The Matthew Phillips guy sounds a bit like Johnny Gaudreau. If he pans out half as good I'd be willing to take a chance on him in the 5th round for sure.

I wouldn't go that far. It's really tough to predict BCHL players because they aren't really playing against other top picks.

I wouldn't bet on it. Just comparable able weight and height. Yeah true, I must say tho, I watched a few BCHL games since I was living on Vancouver island and the quality of play was decent. Not saying it's the same caliber as the CHL but the BCHL hopefully get more respect.

From what I've seen from Fabro is that he isn't that strong of a skater at all (especially backwards for a defenceman) . He was a little prone to be beaten wide and from the outside from opposing forwards.

@Cx oh that could be true. I've only seen highlights of him offensively but he looks good in the attacking end of the ice.

Jost is unbelievable. I've been able to watch him for the past two years when Penticton comes to play in my hometown. He would probably be higher ranked if he went to the W instead of the BC though.
