Detroit 1st round draft:

Trade with Philly:

DET Gets: 2nd overall pick

PHI Gets: Rights to Tomas Tatar, Xavier Ouellete, 2017 4th, 2017 5th

Trade with WPG:

DET Gets: 14th overall pick, Nic Petan/Michael Spacek

WPG Gets: 9th overall pick

DET Selects:
2nd overall: Nico Hischier
14th overall: Kailer Yamomoto

no way philly would take that. it looks like they're heading for rebuild in the next few years. yeah tatar would be good for the present but i don't see ouellette doing very well in philly prospect wise, also the 4th and 5th in a weak draft wouldn't be very appealing. detroit would be laughing to the bank if they got that deal done. the value difference between petan and spacek is huge, but either way i think that one is doable.

2.) 08 May 2017 19:31:42
Having posted a trade for the 2nd overall from Philly to Detroit before while including the 9th overall pick, makes this more and more unlikely based on responses. Philly by the sounds of it needs the pick more then what's generally being offered for it. So likely it doesn't move and as much as I would love my Red Wings to move to 2nd. It still unlikely and the deal you proposed wouldn't be enough. Philly wouldn't want to be out of the first round without recieving the 9th pick at least.

As for the Winnipeg trade, it's closer value wise. However I just don't see Detroit moving out of the Top 10 right now. Holland moved down last year to dump Datsyuk's contract which most fans are starting to hate because we gave up Chychrun (myself included) . So basically you're close value wise, just don't see Detroit moving down. They will either stand still at 9th or try to move up.

Bruins Get: 2017 5th, 2018 conditional 4th

Vegas Gets: Ryan Spooner (he is Vegas' player from BOS for expansion draft)

*Becomes 3rd is Spooner scores 50 points in 2017-18

Caps_Man

1.) 05 May 2017 12:31:51
Why would Boston want to give up Spooner over Hayes or Beleskey? Not a smart move from them.

03 May 2017 21:37:13
Flames Get: Rights to Philipp Grubauer, Dmitry Orlov

Capitals Get: Rights to Chad Johnson, 2017 3rd, 2018 conditional 4th*

*4th becomes 3rd if Orlov plays 75 game in 2017-18 season

WHY FOR CGY: They get good, young goalie (who if they are smart with, can protect him by not tendering him before expansion draft), and a good defenseman that they need for better defensive success

WHY FOR WSH: They get a proven backup goalie that MacLellan will find a way to sign, and they clear some space not only for cap money to re-sign Johnson, but also for a young defenseman (Bowey/Djoos) to step into a role with the NHL club. The Caps also get a few draft picks

Caps_Man

1.) 03 May 2017 21:55:50
Brooooo.

Grub is better than Johnson.
Johnson isn't going to get more than Darling did, he'd probably get a 5th round pick max uf he was traded. Grub is an RFA, and even if they were both signed, I'd still take Grub over Johnson,

And man, Orlov is 100% worth more than two picks. Orlov in these playoffs proved that he is the second best dman for the Caps, behind John Carlson (I'm high on Nate Schmidt as well, but Orlov/ Carlson are the 1/ 2 for WSH) . If they are losing Shatty and Alzner to free agency, why trade Orlov away as well? For such a low price nonetheless. And if your logic is that the Caps can resign Oshie/ Shattenkirk/ Alzner/ Williams, well, Orlov is a much better choice to resign that any of them, besides Oshie.

Get Oshie and Orlov back, let Shatty/ Alzner/ Williams slide.

2.) 04 May 2017 00:10:10
If that's all it takes to get Orlov I want Bergevin to try and get him lol.
Orlov is a good dman. will take way more than that.

3.) 04 May 2017 00:39:30
Canucks will give you CBJ 2017/ 2018 2nd for that package if you're trading it for a downgrade in net, and 2 mid round picks.

4.) 04 May 2017 01:23:53
Colorado, Dallas, Winnipeg would probably give a lot more for Orlov.

5.) 04 May 2017 01:43:21
Right as I'm reading this Orlov scores on himself. Oops!

ANA - TB

Ducks Get: Drouin, 2017 3rd/4th

Lightning Get: Fowler

Caps_Man

1.) 01 May 2017 19:45:05
With the age gap, no from Tampa.
Tampa would rather go for Theodore or Lindholm.

2.) 01 May 2017 20:20:34
Agree with McJC. Me for myself still think Drouin will be a top 15 scorer in the league once. So i don't get why some experts say he could fetch them a top 4 D, he should bring a top 2 D in return imo. But i don't know if trading Drouin is the right move.

3.) 02 May 2017 06:44:15
I say if you can get Ljndholm for Drouin you do it but Fowler, as good as he is is not getting any younger and Ljndholm is still at least 5 years before hitting his full prime.

4.) 03 May 2017 09:56:08
Price and Max Pac to Tampa for Drouin and Kucherov, Habs then sign UFA Bishop.

May today be a day of mourning for the entire Capitals nation

1.) 11 May 2017 15:14:54
Caps man. where does your team go from here? Honestly, what do you think needs to happen? I know they would never trade Ovi, honestly i'd consider it though.

2.) 11 May 2017 16:11:34
Like 10 guys or something I heard are UFA or RFA so they could be a totally different team next season. Time will tell if it's for better or worse now. Do they make a huge core piece trade or what? Like an Ovie, Backstrom, Kusnetsov, Carlson even,
Losing Oshie, Shat, Williams will hurt for sure. Not much out there to replace that. Besides a big tease or something. Kinda feel for Ovie. Never really been a big fan but still got to feel for the guy a little.

02 May 2017 22:40:26
WHat do you guys think of the contract that Nikita Zaitsev signed?

Caps_Man

1.) 02 May 2017 23:41:45
I think its pretty good. an average of 4.5 I believe . he's a right hand shot top 4 Dman. seems to be the most in demand commodity in the league these days. I believe this guy will continue to improve and this looks like a good deal for both sides. didn't see, but does he have a NMC? .

2.) 03 May 2017 02:56:46
Oops! I just pulled a "Coltie". Sorry to all! This post had nothing to do with my team 🙈🙈🙈🍺💩. Good comparisons tho.

3.) 03 May 2017 09:54:50
I personally hate most 7 year contracts. This is a big gamble. Leaf fans will say it's going to be an amazing value contract in 2/ 3 years, others will say it will be brutal contract in 2/ 3 years. Guess we wait and see.
Klefbom was 7 years at $4.14M per year.
Larsson was 6 years $4.17M per year.
Wait and see how it turns out. For Leaf fans I hope it turns out as good a value as those two Oiler contracts.

4.) 03 May 2017 12:49:16
Ha. My two comments went in switched around.

5.) 03 May 2017 13:42:44
I'm glad you cleared that up yup. I thought you recently became a drunk too.

6.) 03 May 2017 19:22:39
The last 10 years following the Oilers I've been a drunk in the winter time! Aha.

02 May 2017 22:36:51
My projected top 10 picks (if no trades):

1: NJ - Nolan Patrick
2: PHI - Nico Hischier
3: DAL - Miro Heskainen
4: COL - Timothy Liljegren
5: VAN - Casey Mittelstadt
6: LV - Klim Kostin
7: ARI - Gabe Vilardi
8: BUF - Cale Makar
9: DET - Owen Tippett
10: FLA - Kristian Vesalainen

Caps_Man

1.) 03 May 2017 00:18:54
Kostin is too high, I'm almost certain enough to bet money he won't go top 10, and Vilardi will not slip to 7. I see Arizona taking a defencemen and Dallas taking Vilardi 3rd OA.

2.) 03 May 2017 04:32:47
Lol
Vilardi at seven is hilarious.
Kostin at 6 is even more hilarious.

3.) 03 May 2017 09:35:54
Probably very close to what will happen at the draft. However can't say for sure on all of them.

As for my Red Wings, I will say that at #9 they will probably take Cody Glass or Elias Petersson if a really good Dman isn't available. Also I feel Tippet may go earlier, so Detroit may not have a shot at him. That's what I know from a Detroit perspective. Although they may actually take Tippet considering he might be the best available at that position.

4.) 03 May 2017 09:53:08
I'll play along out of boredom during this OTT/ NYR intermission:

1. NJ - Patrick
2. PHI - Heschier
3. DAL - Heiskanan
4. COL - Makar
5. VAN - Vilardi
6. LV - Liljigren
7. ARZ - Glass
8. BUF - Tippett
9. DET - Pettersson
10. FLA - Rasmussen

Or not. I dunno.
I'm sure I'll change more than half of that closer to the draft after I read more about each player.

5.) 03 May 2017 10:14:33
Not bad Chirp, think you forgot about Mittelstadt tho, unless you have the others rated higher.

6.) 03 May 2017 20:19:43
HGB I don't think he'll get puck in the top 10 tbh. I see him going 12-15.

02 May 2017 07:13:36
At the Draft:

Fleury waives NMC.

Flames Get: Fleury

Pens Get: Mason McDonald/Tyler Parsons, Rasmus Andersson/Brett Kulak, Michael Frolik, 2017 3rd, 2018 conditional 2nd*

*Conditional 2nd becomes 1st if CGY advances past 1st round in 2017-18 season

Murray will then be the full time goalie in PIT next year, with Jarry as the backup. McDonald or Parsons will then be the AHL goalie. They also need some defensive help and Andersson/Kulak are great young defenseman

Caps_Man

1.) 02 May 2017 07:46:04
Parsons > Mcdonald
Andersson >> Kulak in terms of value imo, doubt Pens want Frolik.

2.) 02 May 2017 12:00:42
But when these teams were talking about Fleury trade last summer, Frolik was the player that the Pens wanted.

3.) 02 May 2017 12:48:50
Do you realize what goalies are actually worth on the market? No one is going to pay that much for Fleury, he's on the wrong side of 30 and his contract isn't great.

Pitt has to get rid if him more than other teams need him, he won't get that much.

4.) 02 May 2017 15:08:34
Garbage unloaded by Flames.
Fleury will net more than that!
Gotta add something of value to the trade that plays right now.
Brodie + Parsons + weak draft year pick might net Fleury.

5.) 02 May 2017 19:28:34
Wow Fairtrade I was about to agree with you for once until I saw TJ Brodie+ for MAF at the end lol 🙄.

Caps_Man

1.) 02 May 2017 00:38:09
Kuznestsov for 4 years 3.75mil average is laughable. He'd want at least 5 million per year.

As a Caps fan, all this does is screw up our team. Jersey and Philly are going nowhere, so why would Ovi and Backie leave when they want to win now?

1) None of those trades happen
2) Gillies, Lazar, Drouin, and Ferland are all RFA's.

I put out a trade almost exactly like this (just with a draft pick also going to somewhere), and I did not seem to get very many believables, although people said it was close. THey were saying because of contract, maybe one of the younger d-men (Lindholm or Vatanen) . Also, that line "however you spell his name" shows that you put 0 effort into this.
