THIS JUST IN.
Flyers Pushing Hard For Niemi

SJ: Niemi
for
PHI: B. Schenn, Del Zotto, 4th rounder for 2015

With Mason and Emery out, the Flyers have been in trade talks with the Sharks regarding Niemi. This is going to happen, 99.4% sure.

DirtyDreger

1.) Im pretty sure Phi will stick with mason rather then take a guess on niemi

2.) That's the most an UFA wouldve ever been traded for

3.) 1. No way will a 31 year old goalie get you a 23 year old RFA promising center and a 24 year old RFA defender having a rebound year.
2. Mason is the #1 goalie and will be back in a week, no way Hextall brings in Niemi just to make a playoff push. He won't trade young, future assets for an aging goalie who wouldn't stay in Philly. They're not pushing hard for Niemi. I'm 99.9% sure of that.

4.) 99.4% seems like a weird number to be sure of.

Montreal Moves?

MTL: Bournival, Thomas, 3rd rounder 2015
for
TOR: Lupul or Bozak, 5th rounder 2015

Rumors have spread about the Habs and Leafs potentially offering one another trade deals. This does not seem to be a far-fetched offer as T.O. has expressed interest in both Bournival and Thomas, meanwhile the leafs have their fire sale going for their "rebuild" so Lupul and Bozak are names that may draw returns.

MTL: Eller, Parenteau, Fucale
for
EDM: Yakupov, Klefbom, 5th rounder 2015

All three players here for Montreal can be parted with and the Oilers would be the team to buy into this deal, and let go some talent for the hype surrounding Fucale. They're in desperate need of goaltending.

MTL: Emelin, 2nd rounder 2015
for
COL: O'Reilly

Some extra defence for the Avs, and some added offense for the Habs. Both players aren't performing up to their desired potential for their current teams and are rumored to be available.

DirtyDreger

1.) Change the 2nd rounder to a 1st in the MTL/COL deal

2.) I think the Montreal/Toronto deals are over. Franson was on our radar but we lost him, twice. I doubt Bergevin will look at the Leafs roster again.

3.) 25 Feb 2015 17:55:23
The hype for Fucale is quickly fading - he's not doing well besides Fucale is 19 and years away from the NHL, how does that solve the problem? Yak and Klefbom are both playing in the NHL, doing very well now. Edmonton says no, there are much better options - especially at that price.

4.) Keeping hearing that there's no 'market' for the Habs Desharnais, but was there one for Bourque, Moen or Budaj before MB got working the phones?

5.) Klefbom is turning into a top two d so he alone is already to much

Down To the Wire

NYI: Bailey, Leggio, 4th and 6th rounders 2015
for
EDM: Eberle

Picks for the Oilers and a good young prospect for their ongoing rebuild, and an immediate offensive impact for the Isles. Changes need to happen in Edmonton.

BUF: Stewart
for
BOS: Paille, Ferlin, 4th rounder 2015

More scoring grit for the Bruins, and Buffalo can benefit from the deeper bench.

LA: McBain, Andreoff, 1st rounder 2015
for
ARI: Yandle

Is Yandle worth the dismissal of young talent and a 1st rounder? The Kings definitely don't mind, and the Coyotes would appreciate the prospects and decent slotted draft pick.

ARI: Vermette
for
MTL: De La Rose, Bournival, 4th rounder 2015

Sticking with Arizona, more young talent and potential for the likely to not resign Vermette. Not to mention the Habs get their much coveted french player.

TOR: Winnik
for
CHI: Rundblad, 3rd rounder 2015

With Kane sidelined for the next little while, the Blackhawks will need at least an affordable power forward. Winnik is a good choice, and Chicago won't mind throwing the Leafs the above.

CAR: Sekara
for
DAL: Ritchie, 3rd rounder 2015
or
TB: Connolly, 3rd rounder 2015

I still feel Sekara will be in Pittsburgh after the deadline comes and goes, but Dallas and Tampa Bay could be other decent fits for Sekara.

DARK HORSES:

CBJ: Wisniewski
for
DET: Helm, Andersson, 5th rounder 2015

Wisniewski is an invaluable asset that the red Wings would love to acquire, however Columbus would need a good return to part ways at this time. The Blue Jackets are keeping their intentions with Wisniewski hush-hush, but Detroit NEEDS another defenceman if they want to be competitive for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs.

SJ: Niemi
for
VAN: Markstrom, Dorsett

With Miller out until at least the playoffs, The Canucks might be in the market for a seasoned tender to help carry the load with Lack. Niemi has been rumored to be getting shopped around as the Sharks will most likely pass on resigning him if he stays for another failed playoff run.

RANDOMIZER:

SJ: Thornton or Marleau
for
CGY: Ramo, Glencross, Granlund, 2nd rounder 2015
or
NYI: Bailey, Mouillierat, Strait, 4th rounder 2015
or
OTT: Neil, Chiasson, 2nd and 4th rounders 2015

I'd like to see either Thornton or Marleau, or even both, moved at the deadline. Get some prospects in return for players long rumored to be on the move. Flames, Isles (pending Eberle trade becomes a reality) and Sens could all benefit from having one of the two Shark players. Calgary would be the better fit of these three teams, plenty of cap space and a good young pool of talent that Thornton or Marleau could help take to the next level.

DirtyDreger

1.) The sharks could like the Calgary one but the others wouldn't interest them. And I doubt they waive for Calgary. Also a 4th liner and AHL/backup for Niemi?

2.) I'd rather have Markstrom and Dorsett, Lack can hold down the fort till Miller gets back

3.) Habs should send the Sabres Thomas & return 2nd rounder from the Gorges deal for Stewart & Mitchel

4.) Bournival is french too

5.) @Boris Bagel, it does not look as Thomas will ever be a great NHL player, but why not, Stewart and Mitchell for a 2nd and Thomas.

6.) Thomas sucks, habs can keep him.

NJ: Jagr
for
NYI: Carkner, 6th rounder 2015

The islanders will need some experience going into the playoffs. Jagr provides that and an up front presence.

EDM: Eberle
for
NYI: Bailey, Lee, Hickey, 4th rounder 2015

Along with adding playoff experience, the Isles would ideally want more scoring. Eberle provides that in spades and would be a good long term fit for the team. The Oilers would get back prospects to continue their "rebuild" project.

CAR: Sekara
for
PIT: 2nd rounder 2015

I am sold on the rumor that Sekara will be a Penguin by the deadline. A 2nd round pick is a fair price to pay for him as well and would be useful for the Hurricanes.

TOR: Winnik
for
?: 2nd or 3rd rounder 2015 (depending how close to the deadline Winnik is dealt)

Leafs want picks. There are a number of teams interested in adding Winnik, but for what price? Look for Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Boston to be in on Winnik.

BUF: Stewart
for
BOS/NYI/CGY/DAL: 2nd rounder 2015 and/or promising prospect

The Sabres will hold on to Stewart until the deadline to up his value. Boston, NYI, Clagary and Dallas all have needs for a power forward who can put up points to add to their rosters for the playoffs.

ARI: Vermette
for
CHI: 2nd rounder 2015, 3rd rounder 2015 and/or Bickell
or
MTL: Eller, 2nd rounder 2015

The Blackhawks have entered the Vermette situation, it will be interesting to see what they are willing to part with if they are serious about landing him. Eller is rumored to be on the move from MTL, so Vermette would be a stellar upgrade.

EDM: Petry
for
LA: McBain, 3rd rounder 2015

The price might be high for Petry. Not many teams looking for a d-man will bite on the expectations of the Oilers, but LA just might unless they get a better blueliner option.

ARI: Yandle
for
DET: Helm, Smith, 1st rounder 2015
or
MIN: Dumba, 1st rounder 2015, 2nd rounder 2015

Detroit would love to have the extra special teams talent and over back end pressure addition. But look for Minnisota to be in contact with the Coyotes, they've already made one deal this year so the rapport is there for conversations. Plus the Wild could use defence now more than ever with the playoffs approaching.

TOR: Phanuef
for
COL: 1st rounder 2015, 3rd rounder 2015, Barrie

Phanuef is a wild card, a lot of inquiries about him for the Leafs including: SJ, TB, PIT, NYI and Dal to name a few . He probably won't get moved unless every other d-man available is gone. But the Avs could use some size on the blueline heading into the playoffs now that they're offence is clicking and cap space will free up when Colorado does not resign Briere. T.O. would love the picks and prospects.

SJ: Niemi, Marleau and Thornton

All veteran players rumored to be moved who would add value to teams in need of experience and overall team depth to become more competetive. But who would land where? I'm sure the Sharks wouldn't want to deal any of these players to Western Conference teams. Niemi to Philly or NJ? Marleau to Carolina or TB? Thornton to Ottawa or Florida?.Thoughts?

DirtyDreger

1.) First trade is pathetic. NJ could get something better for Jagr

2.) Yes 1st trade is pathetic and that phaneuf trade is even worse.phaneuf wouldn't get you Tyson barrie alone.and then colorodo has to add a 1st that will probably be a top 10 pick and a 3rd.please tell me i'm reading this wrong.dont you think if nonis could get this for phaneuf he would be gone already.i mean i'm sure dion has value but wtf.

3.) Huge no from col wouldn't even trade barrie for that straight up

4.) 18 Feb 2015 08:03:20
Hahahahahano. Honestly, Barrie alone is worth Phaneuf*5. H O R R I B L E.

5.) ^ The COL trade is counterintuitive. They need to bolster their D, not weaken it in a trade. Their biggest strength is at FWD.

as for the value, it's ho-hum. Considering my first point, IF Barrie were involved, I doubt this years 1st would go as well. From what I have heard Phaneuf is a valued asset outside of Toronto, so I wouldn't be surprised if the return was similar in structure, though obviously not the same pieces.

6.) 18 Feb 2015 15:47:46
You are correct. But honestly, even leaving out contracts, I'd rahter have Barrie than Phaneuf.
And factoring in contracts, the 1st (maybe not this year) would definitely go the other way.
All in all, IF the avalanche would want Phaneuf, it would make much more sense to use him as a starting bid for ROR for example. Because as you said, Avs have a surplus on forwards and are looking for D help.

7.) Why would Niemi go to NJ? They have Schneider

8.) Leafs should trade JVR to Jets for 1st rounder

9.) ^ JVR would cost more than a 1st

10.) Phaneuf & a pick or prospect for O'Reilly would be great for both teams.

Kesselmania

If the Leafs are in total rebuild mode and if, a big if, they trade Kessel before the 2015 draft (assuming he's traded):

TOR: Kessel, 6th rounder 2015
for
FLA: Bergenheim, Shaw, 1st rounder 2015, 2nd rounder 2015

Bergenheim wants out, Leafs want picks/prospects. FLA has cap space for Kessel and would be willing to pay.

TOR: Kessel, 6th rounder 2015
for
NYI: Bailey, de Haan, Collberg, 2nd rounder 2015

Bailey would be expendable, along with de Haan for cap space, if this deal was made. Kessel would more than make up for Okposo's absence playing with Tavares.

TOR: Kessel
for
LA: Pearson or Toffoli, McBain, 1st rounder 2015

LA has cap space, Kessel would love to be on a contender and T.O. would love the young proven forward. LA won't miss giving up the 1st rounder, with the players/prospects they've got, and getting a quality goal scorer in return.

TOR: Kessel
for
DAL: Hemsky, Eakin, 1st rounder 2015

The Stars have shown interest, and with Seguin down they'll need offence to continue to push against the western conference teams. Hemsky would be in the deal to free up cap space for the Stars, he'd also be flipped by T.O. for they're desired talent.

TOR: Kessel
for
SJ: Marleau or Thornton, Grosenick, 2nd rounder 2015

The opportunity for the sharks to dump one of the two players heavily rumored to be gone for quite sometime. Marleau/Thornton would provide good leadership to initiate the rebuild in their remaining contracts. Also, the leafs get a much needed decent goalie prospect.

TOR: Kessel
for
CGY: Colborne, Ortio, 1st rounder 2015

Solid goaltender prospect for the Leafs and a young player plus draft pick. Calgary has more than enough cap space to suffice adding Kessel. Kessel could be the spark needed to keep the Flames burning for the playoffs.

TOR: Kessel
for
ANA: Smith-Pelly, Vatanen, 1st rounder 2015

bit of a darkhorse, but again T.O. with the prospects and pick for the rebuild.

TOR: Kessel, Bozak, 3rd rounder 2015
for
OTT: Hoffman, Stone, Ceci, 1st rounder 2015

The Sens have mega cap space for both Kessel and Bozak, and have prospects to spare. The immediate return of young talent for the Leafs would make up for the loss of top forwards.

DirtyDreger

1.) As good as he is there is a special kind of hate reserved in ottawa for Phil Kessel, I'd rather not see Him in a sens jersey, I'd even consider cancelling my season seat.

2.) 17 Feb 2015 06:28:05
Personally I'd have no problem with Kessel becoming a Senator. He's an elite goal scorer that don't grow on trees and if it makes Ottawa better then so be it, trade for him. The problem is the price would be too steep for Ottawa. That would pretty much leave us without any proven prospects and Ottawa isn't in a stage where they can give that up. And a big no to bozak. I'd prefer Turris and Zibby over Bozak and his cap is too high to play 3rd line center on a budget team.

3.) Kessel is simply not worth that much

4.) A lot of these trades aren't exactly realistic.

Kessel to SJ would be interesting. Seeing as Marleau or Thorton would have to come out to bring him in, I wouldn't be shocked if that was a 3 way trade, sending Marleau/Thorton to another team for a prospect and pick.

Could end up being a good return for the Leafs.

5.) Underpayment on most of these

6.) Ottawa doesn;t want Kessel and Bozak. They would much rather have Hoffman, Stone (2 of the top 5 scorers in rookies), Ceci (future of Ottawa D with Karlsson, Methot, Cowen) and a 1st (likely a top 10 pick)

That is just a terrible trade proposal.
