Oilers
Eberle (1.5 mill retained)
1st rd pick (N/A OVR)
3rd Rd pick (STL)
Islanders
Pulock
1st round (15th OVR)

FlyingV

1.) 08 May 2017 04:56:18
Value wise it seems good to me, not sure if it would be in the Oils best interest to pay Eberle 3 Mil over the next 2 seasons tho. Also wouldn't Oiler want someone more established then Pulock or is he close enough in your opinion? Are all these picks 2017?

2.) 08 May 2017 04:57:47
how is the 1st round non applicable overall? don't you mean to be decided not non applicable.

3.) 08 May 2017 05:46:25
@Kaner88 "N/ A" has three meanings, non applicable, not avaliable and not announced, look it up. Also nice comment on that but not the post.

4.) 08 May 2017 06:11:34
@hotguybabes I honestly do think Pulock could come up and be an NHL top 4, he has average skating ability, a shot that clocks at weber speeds, and has pretty good numbers in the AHL. As far as know, he also knows how to QB the power play and plays the first unit in Bridgeport. He doesn't get good exposure because resigning like Seidenberg.

5.) 08 May 2017 15:21:52
Sorry, Top 6 forwards don't go for a Dman that can't make the NHL yet.

16th + 33rd pick is a high end prospect D price. Not a top 6'er
Possibility of Eberle for Pulock + Dal Colle may exist as a 2 for 1, but Eberle + for someone that hasn't made the NHL won't fly no matter how bad the masses wish to paste goat horns on Eberle.

Reports the Pittsburgh is interested in acquiring Gabriel Landeskog, A rumoured deal that was brought up:
PIT:
LD Olli Maatta
2nd Round Pick (2017)
COL:
LW Gabriel Landeskog
As far As I can say, it fits teams needs and Crosby with a landeskog would be dangerous.

FlyingV

1.) 11 Jan 2017 02:58:23
Couldn't see Colorado taking that. Their asking price is way higher.

2.) 11 Jan 2017 02:58:42
And could they even afford Landy?

3.) 11 Jan 2017 03:03:57
Would the cap work? I think a decent left winger replacement would have to be added.

4.) 11 Jan 2017 03:53:18
Make it a 1st that pick with be super late

5.) 11 Jan 2017 04:42:31
No from Avalanche. They would want more for their captain

06 Jan 2017 08:32:09
Reports that's Boston is eargerly Pursuing a deal involving Landeskog, of course Avalanche asking for A young upcoming d-man+, Brandon Carlo came up and they thoughtfully declined. Here's a reported deal being flung around:
BOS: LD Jakub Zboril
(2017) First round pick
COL: LW Gabriel Landeskog

FlyingV

1.) 06 Jan 2017 12:18:21
As Boston I would take that. I don't see Zboril as a savior on defense, and he's replaced by McAvoy who honestly looks to be better.

2.) 06 Jan 2017 14:07:35
I bet you would take that. Unfortunatly Colorado would laugh in Sweeney face if he propose this. Zboril is a bust and a late first ain't going to cut it. No deal

3.) 06 Jan 2017 14:11:23
I think you just gave the reason why Colorado wouldn't accept this trade too haha. They are going to try and get the best prospects not just good ones if they are trading their star players

4.) 06 Jan 2017 14:39:24
Boston would do it, Colorado would not.

That's selling pretty low on Landeskog.

5.) 06 Jan 2017 15:14:19
The second half of this report is that Boston countered with zboril and the avs declined. Avs can get much more for Landy, going to have to add more to that package, easy no by colorado.

6.) 06 Jan 2017 17:38:33
Latest possible package from Boston I've heard of his Zboril, Morrow, Debrusk, and their 2017 1st. If the Aves are looking for young players in return they could do a lot worse than this

13 Dec 2016 07:23:35
speculation from Oilers insider Bob Stauffer that the Oilers could in fact be interested in Jarome Iginla.
EDM:
Gryba
conditional 7th
COL:
Iginla
-As we all know Iggy is 40 years old and Colorado looks like they may be a bottomfeeder team which may mean they may be sellers near deadline time, Iggy may waive his no-trade clause to play for a playoff team.
-this may be a solid move for Edmonton, Iggy is still a solid 30 point guy, A vet, and an Edmonton boy. If the Oilers are in fact a clear cut playoff team by Deadline a move like this could be similar to the Derek Roy trade, also upgrading the right wing depth, and Veteran Leadership by adding a 20 season vet, plus it's plausible Puljujarvi may need some seasoning in the AHL, scratching him 2 games every week doesn't seem like a great idea.

FlyingV

1.) 13 Dec 2016 08:10:18
Holy iggy still produces points. That's a low offer and also I think they retain salary

2.) 13 Dec 2016 08:11:35
I'd love iggy in edmonton as iv said in the past that they should try to get him for one more year, however he wants to go to a cup contender (if he waives) and that is not Edmonton unfortunately. So won't happen.

3.) 13 Dec 2016 12:28:14
Yeah they need to acquire somebody on RW so they can send down Pulijuravi, they should also look at Vrbata, Ryan and Gionta.

4.) 13 Dec 2016 16:26:28
Once again, Edmonton needs D-men not forwards. Especially now with Nurse gone long term. If the offer goes down, I can't see Gryba going the other way as he will be needed as soon as he's back from injury.

Deal could go down for a forward + pick though. There is a base here to do a deal, but likely it won't be a Dman involved.

17 Nov 2016 08:44:08
Rumours that the Canucks are keeping tabs on forward Evander Kane, and have some interest in acquiring him, A rumoured deal that came up was along the lines of:
VAN
D Ben Hutton
BUF
LW Evander Kane
Nucks fans have mix feelings about this, some don't even want to give Kane a chance, thoughts?

FlyingV

1.) 17 Nov 2016 10:53:17
No thanks.

2.) 17 Nov 2016 12:49:59
Easy no from Vancouver IMO.

3.) 17 Nov 2016 19:25:44
I know Ben Hutton is underrated and is a good young player, but I wouldn't mind it for Vancouver because they have Olli Juolevi. However the cap wouldn't work. So Vancouver would have to send salary over (likely Sbisa) and by doing so it would make more holes through out the line up.

To make a long story shorter, I don't think it will work out.

Just to follow up on Flamers' comparison post, I made a few tweaks, but involving only the best young centers in the league, tell me what you guys think.
McDavid-Crosby
Barkov-Malkin
Draisaitl-Kopitar
Eichel-Stamkos
Matthews-Tavares
Schiefele-Getzlaf
Monahan-Toews

FlyingV

1.) 20 Jan 2018 00:19:59
Honestly pretty good although I don’t think barkov will be quite as good offensively as Malkin.

2.) 20 Jan 2018 17:30:33
I think Barlow is more like Kopi and Draisaitl is more like Malkin.

3.) 20 Jan 2018 17:43:50
Yeah kopitar and barkov have always kinda been linked in my head.

4.) 20 Jan 2018 22:07:21
Wouldn’t consider sheifle and getzlaf similar. Getzlaf is a big bodied power forward with a big shot and decent hands, sheifle is more of a finess playmaking guy.

27 Nov 2017 09:04:12
Here's a new post that may/may not be controversial, give me your thoughts:
Top 20 Defensemen in the NHL:

1.) Karlsson
2.) Hedman
3.) Pietrangelo
4.) Doughty
5.) Josi
6.) Subban
7.) Weber
8.) Burns
9.) Letang
10.) Keith
11.) Suter
12.) Byfuglien
13.) Ekman-Larsson
14.) Klingberg
15.) Ristolainen
16.) Carlson
17.) McDonagh
18.) Ekblad
19.) Parayko
20.) Giordano

Honourable mentions: Hamilton, Faulk, Ellis, Ekholm, Fowler, Werenski, Sergachev Jones, Brodie, Slavin, Gostisbehere, Provorov, Shattenkirk, McAvoy

FlyingV

1.) 27 Nov 2017 13:04:34
I'd like to point out byfuglien isn't even the best defence man on the jets.

2.) 27 Nov 2017 13:24:24
Is this how they are playing now or over their careers? If it's now Pietangelo is playing the best now and should win the Norris. Karlsson is not even in the top 10 this year.

3.) 27 Nov 2017 14:22:28
VanCity, Karlsson has been playing on another level since he got back from his injury. Definately the best d man since coming back.

4.) 27 Nov 2017 15:41:28
Good post. I like these kind lol. I don't agree with the list however. I think ya have my guy, the Hab, Weber rated to high at this point.

5.) 28 Nov 2017 00:22:18
VanCity are you stupid? Karlsson has 17 points in 17 games (highest PPG in the league by a D) . Pietrangelo is at 0.83 and yes I know points isn't everything but come on, not even top 10? Give me a break!

6.) 28 Nov 2017 00:32:57
If it's this year, Rielly, Krug, etc. deserve some mentions.

I don't like Buff at 12, too high.
Kling is way too high imo.
Giordano, uh, i think Slavvin, Pesce and Faulk are better. As well as Prov.
Ekblad>Carlson, McDonagh imo.

Those are just my comments. I'm prepared to get like 10 dislikes lol.

7.) 28 Nov 2017 03:16:16
Suter is underatted such a save player great 1st pass would help out any team and logs crazy minutes I’d take him 5th over Josi and Subban ( on leafs ) but his offense isn’t amazing.

8.) 28 Nov 2017 17:34:22
morgan rielly and mike green.

9.) 28 Nov 2017 18:54:08
Burns should be ahead of Weber and subban if it’s for the last cpl years. All good D men tho. I do feel like Morgan Rielly is being looked over. Not saying he should be up with Karlsson and Hedman, but not even an honourable mention seems wrong. Been playing against top lines since half way through his rookie year without a lot of help at times. And now finally getting the offense he was drafted for going too. Was on pace for 71 pts last week (doubt he can keep that up) but Haven’t looked in a few games.

10.) 30 Nov 2017 11:34:20
@Vancity a little bit of both, I believe if Karlsson keeps having a great year and Pietrangelo and his team slows down, I think Karlsson could creep up on him for the Norris.

25 May 2017 12:08:37
It's interesting that these last 10 draft years + set a bit of a trend/pattern. That picking in or near the top 15, when in doubt pick the Best Swedish defensemen available, its crazy, I have not found a single one that hasn't already made the top 4 of the NHL team to Norris potential, in the past 10 years. Makes you think about the future huh, this year, hmm
, Maybe Liljegren, Brannstrom. Next year, maybe Dahlin and Boqvist.

FlyingV

1.) 25 May 2017 17:53:32
It's not like there's a large sample size. There have only been like 6 Swedish defencen taken in the top 15 since 2007.

It's so few guys that it's basically meaningless. Should everyone start drafting random Germans in the top of the 1st round now because Draisaitl is good?

2.) 25 May 2017 21:23:58
^ I'd like that!

21 May 2017 23:53:26
The 2017 had been labeled one of the weakest draft of this decade, but regardless may provide some talent, so aside from Patrick/Hischier (the sure things). What draft steals do you think this draft may be able to provide, from any round, I'd like to see some opinions, here's mine:

1A. RD Cale Makar
I think he will be an elite offense defenseman in this league, he's guaranteed a year of college and has more years to grow a defensive game, if he falls anywhere near 10, he's a steal.

1B. C Elias Pettersson
I definitely think he has the talent to be the most talented player in the draft, he's just so agile and shifty, so strong in the puck and has an extra gear/slick stick, he draws penalties almost on a gamely bases and scores the prettiest goals you may ever see.

2. LD Jusso Valimaki
Same as Makar, but I just see so much Roman Josi in him, smooth skating, offensively, I've seen him around 17 in most drafts, which I see him being a steal if so.

3. RW Klim Kostin
I haven't seen much of his game in depth, but listening to scouting reports and what is available to me, if he's an elite talent and picked near 15-28 I see him as a steal.

4. LW/RW Kristian Vesalainen
I would bet that he becomes this years Miikko Rantanen

5. F Kailer Yamamoto
Gaudreau esque, although I see a bit more finesse and his shot being more of a weapon opposed to Gaudreau and his shifty/illusiveness.

6. C/RW Kole Lind
Smart Player, right handed, good size, C/RW, he's always in the right spots, a safe pick for me.

7. RD Connor Timmins
He's smart, smooth skating d-man, likes to use his shot and doesn't mind throwing his weight, honestly see him being a right handed Shea Theodore.

8. LD Pierre-Oliver Joseph
Personal favorite on defense, I love watching him, if he goes late first he's a steal

9. LD Erik Brannstrom
Oliver Kylington esque, he doesn't have the size, but has the skill

10. G Jake Oettinger
poor man's Carey Price, size, poise has exceptional numbers for a sophmore in college says something

11. C/RW Joni Ikonen
-I see him as a very similar player to Eeli Tolvanen, but being a pick hog and size may be pulling him back a bit

FlyingV

1.) 22 May 2017 00:53:39
couldn't Nick Suzuki be a steal too?

Idk, I've heard a ton of good things about him.

2.) 22 May 2017 01:38:36
Oh yea, he's a work horse, he's smart, has a decent shot and 96 points is already hard enough to come by on a team like Owen Sound.

3.) 22 May 2017 02:51:53
If Brannstrom falls to late 20s or the second round he would be a massive steal. Personally I think he will be really good.

4.) 22 May 2017 04:22:27
Yamamoto is a small player who has a lot of grit and surprising physically to his game. If I were to compare him to anybody that would be Drake Caggiula.

5.) 22 May 2017 11:21:14
Agree with Kostin, Yamamoto, Joseph and Vesalainen (depending where they get taken of course) others I would add would be Keith Petruzelli, big goalie, reminds me of Bishop without the puck playing ability, should go late 1st-mid 2nd. Lias Andersson and Nicolas Hague are two more that I like (projected mid 1sts) .

17 May 2017 11:29:05
2018 Draft already looks interesting and there will definitely be a plethora of unique talent to choose from, but the interesting thing is when you delve into the draft eligibles, the most notable thing to catch by watching these prospects are how many skilled defensemen are in this draft class, like I truly think this is the year of the defenseman topped off by none other than Dahlin. Anyways here's my early rankings for defensemen in that year. (I feel like each D-Man that makes this list has potential of being/staying a first rounder).

1.) LD Rasmus Dahlin - easy, generational d-man, 2 way who plays hard defensively but harder offensively

2.) RD Bode Wilde - always been considered a top 10 next year for a long time, possibly the best defensive two way

3.) LD Jared McIssac - competing with Wilde for best two way, did wonders for Halifax this season, biggest player on this list at 6'2" 209, pretty much a top 10

4.) RD Adam Boqvist - small defenseman at 5'11", but seriously watch this kid, can shoot it from anywhere with pin point accuracy, a true offensive talent, a lot like Makar

5.) RD Ryan Merkley - smallish d-man, may actually be the best offensively talent aside from Dahlin, showcased a great season in the OHL

6.) RD Evan Bouchard - plays for London, big two way, London use him in most situations

7.) RD Jett woo - reminds me a lot of Matt Dumba Mid (17ish) to Late first rounders

8.) RD Caleb Addison - He can still grow but at 5'9" size may be disconcerning, still a solid d-man

9.) RD Xavier Bouchard - another big 6'2" 2 way, the defensive depth continues

10.) LD Ty Smith - average size defenseman, picked 1st Overall in the WHL, had a decent season for Spokane, may pick it up.

FlyingV

1.) 17 May 2017 18:09:59
You forgot Andrei Svechnikov man. Projected top 2 with Dahlin. Jack Wise also looks like the next best American prospect.

2.) 17 May 2017 18:38:58
Sorry @FlyingV. I can't read lol. Didn't see you said just defencemen haha.

3.) 17 May 2017 19:01:30
Anyways about the post I agree 2018 is looking deep and strong and should have a solid first few rounds. I'd rank Boqvist higher but it's all close and early now. I'm a fan of Woo although I've had brief viewings of him.

More points, goals, far superior two way player, Nuge is one of our best Penalty killers, most consistent player and our 3rd forward, would not like this trade.

It’s fake, unless a lot of cap is going back to Montreal so St. Louis can fit that 10.5 cap hit, I doubt it would ever go through. They have barely projected 200K in cap space, Allen has under 5 mill as a cap hit, this said “proposal” is a week old, even if a variant of it were true, It probably wouldn’t take this long to accept, but who knows.

Well I like it, solid right handed winger capable of playing anywhere in the top 9, the thing you may need to acknowledge though is how high Sharks value Labanc compared to, cause I know his play is a tad inconsistent, but also young, and his numbers are solid for a 22 year old who’s place in the lineup isn’t solidified.

Why not propose these trades separately instead of making a 3 way trade, it’s not like there is several mixed team assets going to different teams.

1.) Ryan Merkley has fallen on almost every list or rankings to go 15+ OVR because of his defensive play in his own zone. He loses puck battles, too small, no physicality, deteriorates at first sign of an odd man rush, only tools he has there is stick check and speed to defend/ escape zone, still elite IQ and offense.

2.) I like the Ty Smith/ Evan Bouchard touches
-Bouchard will be one of the most mature Dmen coming out of the draft, had 3 offense filled seasons on one of the best CHL hockey clubs/ program.
-Ty Smith is an almost exact Model of Duncan Keith it seems like, can see him as the Provorov of this draft, really does it all, and brings tons of offense, I see a #1 D man potentially, size may or may not be an issue unless he can put on a few pounds because he’s not tall at 5'11"

3.) I liked you leaving out Kupari/ Veleno
-Kupari had one full chance to impress, regardless of his icetime, he needed to prove he was a top 10 pick at the World Juniors. Even on a WJC platform, ” if he’s top 10 skill” still remains in question after a horrible tourney and we’ve seen this before. Eeli Tolvanen ring a bell?

4.) Tkachuk is too low
-I think he had a good showing at the WJC to all the doubters talking about his lack of offense or slow start to the season, he showed that he brings so much to the table now and is at least a lock for Top 5 for me.
