The first is used to close the gap of quality of player and also for wild to retain the 500k. I built a team with that trade and needed the savings to get my 23 man roster.

need the first rounder in there or wild don’t bother lol you’re trading a good 4th liner/ okay 3rd line player and an ECHL goalie for a 25 year old with 20, 24, 25 and 18 goals (missed 20 games) in last 4 years and a bit of salary retention. You can’t just give them your garbage for it lol.

@vbb it seems to go in cycles. They’re extremely reasonable for a while and then hey get fixated on one player and all of a sudden he worth 5x what any normal thinking fan would believe. Then slowly goes back to normal. It was Ethan Bear for a bit, then there was another that escapes me right now, then it was Yamamoto after that. It’ll come back to earth.

2 days ago I was told that yamamoto was the biggest steal of the draft at 22nd lol ahead of liljegren at 17th who won a championship playing top 4 min while being youngest player in the AHL. Ahead of Morgan Frost who shredded the OHL and dragged the greyhounds to the finals (picked 27th) and ahead of Tolvanen at 30 who tore up the KHL and will be a top 6 on Nashville this October.
“Yamamoto would have been top 5 if he was bigger†lol don’t give me that crap on the same week Martin St Louis is a hall famer. Teams aren’t ignorant to that anymore. The game is built for small, skilled, fast players. It wouldn’t have made a difference.

Interesting. heard rumblings of ottawa having interest in RNH, don't know much about bear but i know a few oil fans on here covet him deeply. the 1st round pick should be a good one. I feel like most sens fans are going to say "not nearly enough" but i think its interesting indeed.

Big upgrade at centre for sens, huge upgrade on D for oil and a good first and prospect for the difference. It’s definitely interesting. I do think that they will want either another good pick / prospect or a better prospect than Bear. I know oilers fans covet him too, but when trading for a franchise guy, I think your best or second best prospect has to be in there, like a Yamamoto. But pretty good.

Sorry, that trade is organizational suicide for Edmonton and is not realistic.
Karlsson is basically a rental for 1 year until he hits Free agency which he has publically stated he will go to the highest bidder with the max term. This is why he is on the blocks in Ottawa. They can lose him next year for NOTHING.
Because of this, even though he's a good player, he is in fact nothing more than a rental for 1 year. RNH ( Oilers most consistent player this year) and Klefbom (team friendly cap hit) are signed long term, so giving up the franchise stability for 1 year of service for a player who is leaving for nothing is too much risk for even the dumbest of GM's to do.
Karlsson right now because of his rental status is not worth very much. Even less to a team that isn't making the playoffs this year. Maybe a 2nd and prospect like Jones or Bear, but that's it outta Edmonton. no Klef, no 1st (could be Dahlin), no Hopkins back to attain this rental player.

Kind of agree with 4T4A. But it’s not that Karlsson has no value it’s that he’s worth the moon and I don’t know what team will actually give up what he’s worth. He’s not a free agent after this season is he? If he is then this deal definitely doesn’t make sense for the Oil.

Karlsson is only worth a 2nd round pick and Ethan Bear? lol it’s back to a cpl months ago when oilers fans argued with me that oilers wouldn’t give up Bear straight up for Hoffman. Get off it, Jesus Christ. This guy must be the best kept secret in the 100 year history of the NHL. He has proven less than Travis Dermott has for the leafs, and if I said dermott and a 2nd for Karlsson or dermott for Hoffman+ I’d be absolutely roasted, and rightfully so. What a joke.

Eh Jim, The argument was that yes Bear + could get Hoffman but that Edm would probably want to trade one of their winger prospects + for a winger coming back and not their best D prospect for a winger. If they are to tear their best D prospect then it should be for a D coming back not a winger.
Nobody said Bear is more valuable than Hoffman straight up. But that if they were to go after Hoffman a deal around a winger + makes a lot more sense depth wise.

OIL- RNH Nurse maroon 8.5cap
Flyers- ghost Simmonds 2nd 8.5cap
**2nd becomes St Louis 1st round pick if maroon resigns with phili
Oil get offensive D and upgrade on the wing
Phili gets good 2 way center to fill couturier old spot top 4 physical D playing 24mins a night for oilers right now on top pair and maroon is a cheaper version of Simmonds.

I don't know how u can say massive overpayment by phili unless you are completely underrating the players coming back. I understand ghost and Simmonds are very good but RNH is 24 and is a legit 2nd line center and Nurse is 22 and playing top pair. Maroon scored 27 goals last year and has just as many goals and points as simmonds has this year so far. I'm not debating that Simmonds is better than maroon I'm only saying your adding a legit center a legit D who's only getting better and a physical winger that scores to replace some of what you lose from Simmonds.

You basically replace your Offensive D with a great skating bigger tougher physical D capable of playing 25 mins a night. Your tough winger with another cheaper tough winger while adding a top 2 C for the price of a pick. Can't see the overpayment unless your talking from oilers side.

It's the Simmonds for Maroon and Maroon being a 1st round pick if he signs where it goes very wrong.
Maroon did score 27 goals last year but only got 42 pts after seasons of 14 pts, 13 pts and 34pts. Simmonds has more than 27 goals in all of his last 4 seasons and point totals of 54, 60, 50 and 60. Also they don't need RNH because they need to let Patrick develop into a top 6 Center (plus you need to consider his contract which isn't the best) .
Nurse is fantastic but he may dip in form and Ghost is probably the one untouchable Flyer. They'll want to build the team around him. The way I see it is:

Not sure why the Av's would want Nuge, they have Rantanen and others to play right. Although they are heavy on the LHS. Nuge's play has stunk for over a year now.
Peter won't give up that first; but he will try and collect others.

Long term, Duchene would be amazing on Edmonton. And provide another first line caliber centerman. But short term, iginla will retire after this season, and it's not worth losing that first round pick when Oilers aren't contenders.

Getting so tired of trading eberle for nothing. Stop labelling eberle for his flaws as a player and look at him for what he is which is a 50-60pt RW. Believe it or not but a 55 pt average player has value. I'm nearly done with this site and the uneducated and unrealistic fans.
