I could see the Bolts moving someone like Johnson, Kucherov, Killorn, Palat, or Filppula (if they could find takers for him) in order to free up cash to re-sign Stamkos, but not if they're going to take on someone like Marleau and his salary. Doesn't make sense.

Well. Johnson Palat Killorn and Kucherov are hardly the cap hits making resigning guys difficult right now. Johnson and Palat are at 3 mill for a year after this. I guess Kuch and Killorn need new deals but Kuch has been by far their best player last few weeks. I don't think finding a partner for a top 6 two way center who excels at entering the zone would be too difficult. His 5 mill a year is a little much especially for when he was playing 3rd line on the Bolts but he should still have a fair bit of value and can really contribute to a team.

Agree 100% with jbs. If they can move Carle's 5.5M. And let Coburn walk freeing up 4.5M. That's more than enough to sign stammer. People forget that Stamkos cap hit is 7.5M, if he signs for 11M, that's only a 3.5M increase in salary. That's not even Carle's contract right there. I do however think Killorn will get moved, he's too good for 3rd line time.

As good as Kane is, in my eyes, that's a first liner that could put up Kane-points in a couple years, a top pairing defenseman, a top 6 power forward and a 1st and 2nd

2. It's a huge payment from Tampa. The Lightning could easily win the cup this year with the roster they have now and have no real need for Kane.

Tampa cannot take on that salary and it is really difficult to see a team give up a ton of value for him right now with his future in doubt due to his legal issues. I am not saying he is not worth that package, but cannot see teams given that much value right now

Florida has the "stand your ground" law. Given Kane's propensity for getting into trouble, he'd likely get shot before the preseason even begins. So TB would be giving up all that for a dead guy.

I've never said he'll be like Doughty. Anton Stralman is a first pairing D, too, yet pretty unspectacular. That's what I think Koekkoek will be, too. First pairing D doesn't automatically equal stardefenseman/Doughty.
So no, I'm not overvalueing him.

MF, you're the next guy with no clue about hockey, let alone TB prospects. DeAngelo will most likely never be a first pairing guy, because he isn't good enough defensively. More like a 2nd pairing guy playing 1st PP unit quarterback. He could still reach 60+ points.
Koekkoek is sound offensively and defensively, that's why he has the chance to be a first pairing defenseman.

Here's a trade for fun. I see all of these stamkos to the leafs trade. It's almost a certainty the stammer will never leave the bolts. But for whatever reason he does end up leaving the bolts should trade him to the team that will give up the most value for him. And that team is not the leafs but the Calgary Flames.
Bolts:Stammer
Flames: Monaham, Bennet, and two first rounders.
This give the bolts a first/second line center. And a top line winger in Bennet, with 2 1st rounders to keep up there prospect pool or trade away for various assets.
The Flames gain a franchise center to play withy their young talent and excellent defense.
Altough ideally the bolts would want stammer back, if he is to be gone then the bolts should contact the flames
