They have a reputation for taking bad contracts, but those aren't all guys that are happy to walk away from the game. They need to actually pay those players cash, not just cap hit, and have a spot for them to play. Adding Bennett to domi, Strome, crouse, Dvorak, Keller, etc etc is useless when your roster spots are filled with calgarys garbage.

Next Calgary playoff run ETA 2021 so these "bad" contracts will be long gone before that happens.

Calgary needs it's 1st rounder to attain 3 more top 6 forwards to compete for a playoff position, and the 1st rounder in 2017 will have very high draft lotto odds.

Not a good plan for Calgary.

I would think that Stamkos would have a no trade clause in his contract, so he would veto any trade to the leafs. If he wanted to play for the leafs he would have signed with them as a free agent. He would have gotten much more money from Tor than he signed for when he was a ufa. He likes TB and wants to play for a team that has a shot for the cup now, not in 5 or 6 years.

K99 your very biased and know very little about hockey. How do you believe Mathews=Stamkos. Mathews is pretty much a 18 year old version of Stamkos but yet Stamkos is worth a player that gets comared to Anze Kopitar/ John Tavares (Hockey's Future is my professional Sorce) a Patrick Kane Comparison forward who will probably cap at some where around how good Johnny Hockey is IMO in his prime, a top 2 dman in Rielly who explodes in offensive potential, A one dimensional but an offensive Juggernaut I Nylander who is already a top 6 forward and is a Calder trophy candidate. Kappenen won't wow you but he is still a good prospect. No single player in the NHL
could get this Packege if anyone disagrees with me please state why. Also K99 don't even bother to reply unless you come back with fact or testimonials from scouts because you are unbelievably biased towards your team and hate on the leafs.

In Pure value Mathew>Stamkos because of age but to people like Drais I know Tampa would not move him for Mathews because there a win now team.

VB Beauty you made some good points but you cannot say a prospect that hasn't played an NHL game yet is worth more than a proven franchise player in his prime. One day Matthews might be as good as him maybe even surpass him but then again he could also be a bust. No GM would trade Stamkos straight up for Matthews. He just hasn't proven himself yet.

There was No biasing in choosing the players in the trade. The Salary dollars are equal in this trade as shown. Add them up yourself if you don't believe it? This is what I'd be asking for if I was Yzerman.

I applaud your sense of hope and enthusiasm over the roster you are stockpiling. I am sure the media has brainwashed you into thinking the young prospects are more than what they really are. After all Leaf Media would NEVER over rate a player now would they? lol
I am sorry, I think your media has somewhat brain washed you into believing these kids are more than what they really are. Just because the media wants to create hope and hype in T. O. Doesn't make the players coming up the 2nd coming of Gretzky / Crosby / Lemieux as you are indicating.

Realistically speaking I think:
Matthews is somewhere between Daigle to maybe a little less than a Nate McKinnon at best. Dud to first line player but no where near superstar / franchise player status.

Reilly is a #3 Dman . (Currently the best one the leafs have so #1 on the leafs team only) Leafs biased media has been tooting this kid's horn for way too long because . again. The Toronto media NEVER over rates a player . lol

Nylander is too small and is already concussion prone. Very doubtful the little guy will be in Calder consideration as he'll be out of the lineup with concussion symptoms for a significant amount of games again with the first solid hit that he takes. I would anticipate a short career for him.

Marner is a small player and has yet to play against real men. Might turn out to be a Kane/ Little Johnny. might be a professional AHL player with a lot of hype like Robbie Schremp / Linus Omark? No one knows for sure.

On the flip side. Will Stamko's ever be as effective as he was before the blood clot issue?

All the players except Reilly are unproven in the NHL and you and your Leaf biased sources have 0 merit on their abilities and career status until the players play and prove something.
In the end. If you want a superstar. You have to pay.
Sure you can wish all you want to unload the garbage to attain a franchise player, but realistically using salary dollar per salary dollar. this is what it's going to cost to get a franchise player in his prime.

If you think the price is too high. By all means keep your handful of magic beans that may or may not bloom into something someday. You and your amusing biased media sources appraisal of un proven players are talking to the hand as far as I'm concerned if I'm sitting in Yzerman's chair!

Matthews isn't an 18 year old Stamkos they are very different players. You don't trade a proven franchise player for a prospect whose never played a game. that's ridculous. Matthews likely ends up a top line player but no telling if he's franchise or not yet. Obviously package k99 suggested is too much but you add to Matthews for Stamkos value wise assuming Stamkos would even waive which he probably wouldnt.

Id be shocked if Matthews ever produced over a point per game in the NHL, no where near McDavid, Crosby, Kane talent. Every analyst agrees he wouldve went 3rd overall in 2015 if he wouldve been born couple days earlier. Franchise centerman yes, but don't overvalue a guy who hasn't played a single game in the NHL.

Oilers are looking to get bigger and tougher so already Concussion prone Nylander is not desired by the Edmonton organization.

Davidson for Gardiner is a reasonable 1 for 1 trade.

There is no player on the Leafs current roster that could be traded for Eberle.

This trade only benefits Toronto, so a no from the Oilers.

Unproven already concussion prone Nylander has No value on the PRO market currently unless it's unproven small minor league forward for unproven small minor league forward that has had injury problems. Fair trade would be Nylander for Tyler Benson + 5th

Tsn top NHL affiliated prospects list had nylander as #1 by Craig button ( very respected with draft picks and evaluation of potential) . I know new players have been drafted since, but I don't think 45 points in 38 ahl games, 13 points in his first 20 NHL games and then 11 points in 14 playoff games in he A is a bad season that would hurt him.

That's a tough one, if this happened after the expansion it would make it easier to decide. I don't see Strome being better than Eberle in the future (my opinion) and it's hard to compare Hamonic now when he's 5 or whatever years older than Nurse. Hamonic is obviously better now, but we don't know how Nurse will turn out when he's that age, and by the expectations on him he should be better. Oilers have high hopes for him. I don't know.

Sekera is automatically protected with his NTC so Oilers lose Hamonic, Klefbom, or Larson at the draft for nothing. No deal.

Strome is an RFA and has not been retained by NYI yet. He is also a center which Edmonton has too many of already. Strome was in the dog house and didn't do very well last year points wise. Probably why he's unsigned currently.
