Habs send: thrower, emelin. To oilers for 2015 2nd. Then. Habs 2015 2nd, oilers 2015 2nd and gilbert leafs send phanuef to habs and retain 15% of contract to make it cap compliant
1.) Thrower was a 2nd round pick 2 years ago and he is one of monteals top D prospects and Emelin could get a 2nd alone.
2.) After thinking about your post I would remove thrower but they would need to move emelin and Gilbert to make room and the leafs would jump at a solid defensive d-man and a couple 2nd's to get out from that contract and emelin would be of great value to edm for a high 2nd rounder
3.) Also by getting the leafs to pay 15% the habs would be paying phanuef like a 6 million dollar player,which is actually in the ballpark of what value he is
4.) Considering phaneuf wouldn't get much pp time with the habs it wouldn't be worth there time to trade for him as gilbert is just as good defensively for a lot cheaper.
5.) Hell no from Toronto much rather have phaneuf that crappy Gilbert and a low second rounder

None of this makes any sense. If anything the habs should trade emelin and fucale their 1st on '17 for yakupov and edm 1st in '17. Basically flipping picks and edm gets a physical d-man and a goalie for 3 years down the road cause nobody knows what talbot is yet and fucale could be something and mtl gets a sniper with some potential (? ) Still while clearing 2 mil in cap room.
