Lars Eller would be agood fit in Winnipeg. Montreal likes Evander Kane so maybe something like Eller and defenseman Emelin for Kane might work!?

puckstar

1.) NEVER. No one wants to be traded to the PEG. Franchise better off in Seattle

2.) Huppe, that is false. the environment there is insane. spoke to brian little a year ago and asked if he liked it. he said he loved it, the fans were awesome. that is what you want. the only reason why you say no one wants to go there is the fact they didn't finish so well. when they become a cup contender your opinion will change and say everyone wants to go there.

3.) 26 Jul 2014 07:05:47
Not enough was what he wanted to say

4.) Huppe is delusional or ignorant, either way, WPG would have no part of Eller with a bad contract and Emelin a 28 y/o bottom pairing D-man. if you want Kane it would have to include Gally or Galchenyuk

Maple leafs need a center. No problem!
Trade Reimer to Winnipeg for a 2nd round pick.
Then tender an offer to Ryan Johansen of Columbus for 30 million over 5 years. Frontload the contract offering 10 million in the 1st year and hope the Blue Jackets don`t match. Of course, Leafs will have to dump salary but that's what duds like Phaneuf and Lupul are for. The compensation to Columbus would be a 1st, 2nd. and 3rd rounder in 2015 but I might even throw in Kadri to have Columbus take the deal.

puckstar

1.) Then could toronto just trade kadri and a third to CBJ for Johansen Right's?

Kadri = 1st, 2nd
3rd = 3rd

compensation would be as you said, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

. Those who say blowing up the Leafs is a gross over reaction are dead wrong!! JVR is a talented player, no doubt but he is lacksadaisical, almost lazy out there and shows littlle interest in defence. Kessel is a great goal scorer but again, is unwilling to put a decent effort on a night to night performance. Bozak shows up some nights but recently has been a ghost out there and lacks the compete level to be stacked up head to head against the top lines as Carlyle seems to like to do. But, Jake Gardiner is the poster boy of this inept Leaf team. I don`t get it, everyone gushes on how he is such a great skater but the guy can`t skate backwards and from what I have been led to believe is a huge part in playing defense. This core, and I haven`t even mentioned Phaneuf is not the stuff of champions and must be changed. Give me a player who gives maximum effort game in aand game out any day instead of these primadonnas.

puckstar

1.) It sounds like maybe you should start cheering for the flames. That team is all heart out there and bring max effort every night.

2.) Your post is a good example of why blowing it up is a gross reaction - bc fan assessment can be grossly wrong.

I am not saying that JVR, Kessel and Bozak are excellent competitors night in and night out, they are not. But is that really a reason to blow the team up? Do You really think trading a 24 year old d-man is the answer to the Leafs problems? The Leafs have problems but getting rid of their core RIGHT NOW is the not the answer to the problem.

The Leafs only concern right now should be Tampa and then Detroit.

3.) 19 Nov 2014 22:58:07
you saying gardiner can't skate takes all the credibilty out of your post.

the guy is an amazingly smotth player. you can question his decision making and defensive zone play, but you cannot question his skating ability.

also, you're describing the players as if they played like that every night. they've played that way 2 games and have lost by a combined 15-3 score, of course they played horribley. you don't play well and lose 9-2.

4.) I did not say Gardiner cannot skate. I said he cannot skate backwards!

5.) You mean he can not defend not skate.

6.) 21 Nov 2014 00:18:55
last time I checked skating backwards was part of skating.

you're basing that statement off his bad read in the NAS game I bet, aren't you? yes, horrible play on his part, but that doesn't make him a horrible skater.

the talk has been that the Islanders are interested in Dion Phaneuf. Some have speculated that they have made the Leafs a substantial offer but Toronto feels it isn`t nearly enough. a lot of Leaf fans wnat Phaneuf gone so what kind of offer have the Islanders offered and how much more would it take to get the deal done?

puckstar

1.) Yeah you wish even if snow crazy he won't pickup phaneuf he ain't a def that you want in you're team is pAid like a top 2but is more a top 4

2.) If it's true:

De Haan, Nielsen, Mayfield OR Lee + mid pick in 2015

Probably an overpayment, but it would be Garth Snow making the deal

3.) Phaneuf is a top 2 but is paid like a legit #1 just like how Subban is a legit #1 but is paid like generational player

4.) Just because someone gets paid too much doesn't mean he's someone you don't want on your team. NY can afford him and he would be a great addition to any team. Montrealsfinest you show your true colors once again. Only Montreal players are worth having on your team.

5.) Toronto won't let Phaneuf go without a very good piece coming back (Reinhart maybe?) and Nonis doesn't care if people think Phaneuf is overpaid, he IS Toronto's best d-man.

6.) So Hockey'sGodsGift wants to trade:

De Haan- Young d-man who showed last year he is top 4 material and played very well with Hamonic

Nielsen- A solid #2 C, who plays very good 2 way Hockey.

Mayfield- a big imposing d-man, probaly 1 year away from being ready.

Draft Pick.

This is a huge over payment for Phanuef. Multiple reports have the Isles offering a 2nd rd pick and Bailey if they take all of Phanuefs salary, or 2 2nd rd picks if Toronto retains salary. That is where their offer stands, and it will not increase substantially.

7.) Thanks for the response, but I did say it would probably be an overpayment. that's what Garth does. Also, if your proposed trades go down, Toronto only has 5 NHL roster defencemen so I doubt that report was accurate. Hamonic or de Haan would most likely be the centerpiece for a Phaneuf deal considering defense is a not so solid area of the Leafs.

8.) Believe if Phaneuf is dealt, Leafs will be all in on a deal for Keith Yandle
So: Phaneuf - Islanders - Bailey, 2nd rd pick
Kadri, 2nd rd. pick ( fr-Ilanders ) to Phoenix for Yandle.

9.) ^change you're name to yuckstar that deal is gross

. Ok, we all know what the order of sellection was in this summers draft. The questions are (1) which player will make the biggest impact in his first season? and (2.) which player will have the biggest impact over the course of his career?

. My selections would be (1) Leon Draisaitl
(2) Sam Bennett

. Also which defenseman will have the biggest impact over their careers - Engblad or Fleury or?

. My selection would be - Fleury

All speculative of course but hey, its August and what ellse is there to talk about!

puckstar

1.) 1 Kasperi Kapenen 2. Aaron Ekblad

2.) 1) Ekblad, Kapanen 2) Bennett, Nylander

NONIS has got to go!! So disappointing to have a GM who is afraid to make anything happen because " it has to make sense" in order to make a trade.

When you have missed the playoffs, 8 of the last 9 seasons, it makes sense to change things up. What happened to changing the core of this sad sack franchise. Same old bullshit coming out of the mouths of these corporate cronies.

To those delusional Leaaf fans that think big changes are coming today, you are in for a long day! At the end of the day - Phaneuf, Kadri, Franson, Lupul will be all lacing it up for yet another dismal season.

puckstar

1.) Wow you actually don't have a clue.

25 Jun 2014 15:57:24
Well, here we go again! Dave Nonis - all talk and no action! Looking more and more likely that Leafs will be the same lame cast of pretenders that finished last year. Sure, Bolland, Raymond and Kulemin will be elsewhere but what happened to all the talk of changing the core. Kadri, Phaneuf need to be gone. Franson and Lupul should not be far behind.
Nonis needs to go - he has mismanaged the salary cap, signed players to bad contracts and can`t even spell PROACTIVE. We need Paul Holmgren.

puckstar

1.) Franson MIGHT get a 2nd or 3rd for his rights. We should not be trading Kadri when he still has potential to become a 1C, and Lupul's value is very low right now after not having such a good season. I agree on trading Phaneuf though, hopefully in a deal for a top 5 pick.

2.) The same holmgren who sign vinny, bryz and pronger to some of the worst contracts ever?

3.) Lol - if Nonis had traded those players you would have lost your mind, based on what the return would have been. Not trading young players like Kadri and is exactly what the Leafs should be doing.

LFL - the return for Franson would be better than a 2nd or a 3rd.

4.) Lol the draft isn't for 3 days, take a chill pill.

Toronto will do something big

5.) Yea u need to relax lots of time for trades to happen

Serriously! Stop chirping. Nylander will be a better NHL player than Draisaitl and Bozak would be a no. 2 center on a pathetic Oiler team. It would easily be the Leafs getting the woorst of that scenario!

Way way too much for Anders Lee!

Franson, Percy or Biggs wouldn`t get you Larsson!
Franson isn`t a Devils type of defenseman and wouldn`t be in the equation
Kadri, Finn or Percy for Larsson might start a conversation and if so, Leafs should pay close attention.

Phaneuf is not a top 2 defenseman, sure he plays 25 minutes per game but that is one of the reasons Leafs are so bad defensively. Too slow, bad defender, not captain material. Leafs, I believe shopped him hard but there was no takers. Speaks volumes.

I disagree, believe Jets want to trade Kane but know, atleast at this point they are in a no win situation. Teams know he wants out so guess what! they make low ball offers. Jets need to be patient, not let Kane dictate things and tell him if he wants to be traded, play as good as you think you are and all will workout.

Agree, Leafs may be marginally better but they will struggle mightily to make the playoffs, still way too many liabilities on the blueline
One of many who believe Phaneuf is a total waste of 7 million dollars!
Peddle him for a 2nd round pick and use the money and pick up Seabrooke from the Hawks. Franson is a disaster and needs to go. Give the kids on the farm a chance to develope with the big club, they couldn`t be any worse.
