So now that the Leafs are in total rebuild mode here are some ideas about trading Phaneuf. I know they won't happen but if the Leafs want teams to retain all his salary here are some ideas that might make sense. This is just for fun so. here it goes.

#1- To FLA : Phaneuf
To TOR : Cambell, 1st RD PK IN 16

#2 To NJD : Phaneuf
To TOR : Clowe(Salary Dump),Larrson,2ND
RD PK IN 16

#3 To ANA : Phaneuf
To TOR : Depres,2ND RD PK IN 17

All three teams have the cap room to make these trades. I personally would love to see the N.J. trade happen. I can live with the Clowe salary dump for three years than six for Phaneuf. But the FLA trade would help out more. Have fun again just for fun.

^^^ If the Leafs retain salary, I doubt they take back a bad contract. It's one or the other. And if they retain salary AND take back a bad contract, almost all these trades (including Larsson and a 2nd) are more than fair, if not favouring the other teams a little.

@NR22 he puts up 75+ points every year with bozak whos barely a second line center. i'd love to see him play with taveres. remember cheechoo scoring 56 with thornton as his #1? i'd love to see what kessel could do with taveres. I think itd b worth it, also grabner would be balancing out the cap

TO TOR: Reinhart, Dal Cole & 2016 1st, should be enough, but do it before the dead line. I too would love to see Tavares setting up Kessel. Because Kessel is really not old with a decent contract, MAYBE the NYI add after the season, depending on how far NYI go in the playoffs.

4.) ^ regardless of the return NY has Okposo at RW, so I doubt they would give up assets for Kessel.

IMO they need back end help more than FWD help. Just floating it.

NYI - Phaneuf (1 million retained)

TOR - Visnovsky, Reinhart, cond. 2015 1st(if NYI make the conference final).

1.) Fun for whom?

2.) Only the Reimer trade is reasonable

3.) I know that I am going to be hammered by all TML haters for this but that TML/NYI trade is actually pretty close and makes sense for both teams. Maybe Bozak or Kadri instead of NAS 1st. Tavares and Kessel would be an awesome top line and Bozak/Kadri would fill in for Strome. Kessel, Gardiner and Bozak/Kadri are not old and would make NYI cup contenders for the next 5 years. TML jump start their rebuild with 3 good young players/prospects and get to keep their other 1st pick. NYI are MUCH better adding to their already strong offense and add depth to the defense with Gardiner. Remember Dal Colle and Reinhart are only Prospects on the other hand Kessel, Gardiner and Bozak/Kadri are established NHL players.

5.) Why does it make sense for NYI? They already have something that's working. Why would they trade there youth for something that obviously isn't working (most Toronto players)

That's like people saying Nash or Florida is going to trade there young core for Kessel. These players are going to turn out potentially better then Kessel.

7.) @Oilers_11 I completely understand where you are coming from and recognize the importance of team chemistry. Maybe we should ask Tavares if he would like to see Kessel as his RW. He would probably laugh and say "who would not". Just remember the prospects have potential, Kessel IS one of the top 5 NHL goal and point scorers the last 5 years. With Tavares he would be awesome. BTW with the trade I proposed the NYI are giving up 2 PROSPECTS & 1 proven NHL player and getting one of the top NHL scorers, a decent #2 center and decent defenseman (none of which are OLD!), who I can say with as much confidence as you that they MAY be better than Reinhart and Dal Colle will become. Lastly, you are smart enough to know that teams make deadline trades to make the team better, this trade makes the NYI MUCH better by adding an established NHL star.

3. TOR would be dumb to trade JVR. Should definitely be one of their building pieces. Value might be okay.
4. No thanks from EDM. that's a former #1 overall plus most likely either MacDavid or Eichel. So apart from the Oilers not trading that pick, try starting with your own first plus either Rielly or Nylander. Depending on how high TORs pick is, add from there.
5. Many already said it. NSH doesn't need that change, they're doing just fine. And I doubt NSH would consider trading Forsberg straight up. Not to say adding 2 players and a 2nd

2.) I like most of them. But let me ask you a question. If polak is worth a 2nd Rd pick then what is petry worth?

3.) Assuming that the 1st (BUF) means either the 1st of STL or NYI, this trade could happen. That would give Buffalo McDavid/Eichel, Reinhart, Girgensons, Bozak down the middle which would look very scary.

The Nashville trade as Draisaitl_94 already said that's a big no from them.

4.) Lol the 1st in the WPG trade essentially has to be one of the STL/NYI pick. Sry my bad!

Highly doubt Winnik gets a 2nd.

As for Franson, context is everything - It's important to remember that when Franson gets trade its going to be a team pushing for a cup. So there is a good chance that the 1st is going to be in the high twenties. And it's not as if the prospect is going to be A++. Everyone seems to think deadline deals happen in a box(largely based on individual bias) but that is never the case.

Dallas doesn't have the space for Lupul without moving another contract.

I doubt Toronto moves Bozak and Holzer for a 2nd and a 7th.

Polak for a 2nd seems like a stretch, even if it is to SJS.
