A little tbt even though it is not thursday. So I was looking around on the internet and came across an article with 5 proposed trades that didn't go through in 2008-2009 season and to my shock Tampa was involved in 3.

1.

flyers: Giroux
Tampa: Ranger

2.
rangers: Del Zotto, Callahan, Grachev, Girardi, Dubinsky
Tampa: stamkos

3.
Habs: Price, Subban, Pacioretty, 1st (leblanc)
Tampa: Lecavalier

I just wonder how Tampa would have been with these players had the 3 trade gone though.

tbay4life

1.) 16 Sep 2015 12:11:08
Was that Giroux for Paul Ranger I just saw?

2.) 16 Sep 2015 13:31:51
KingsLover ya the worst part is it was Philly that offered it to Tampa. Tampa declined because they had scorers and Ranger was a minute eating top 4 D at the time (for about another year)

3.) 16 Sep 2015 15:21:00
Wow. if TB traded Vinny for those players. lol. the habs would be f****

4.) 16 Sep 2015 21:59:11
whats the link?

5.) 17 Sep 2015 10:18:49
It's true, I have seen those before on the internet.
Well, first and foremost, TB would be in huge cap trouble now, lol.

All those deals would be fantastic now, but as jbs said, Ranger was really good back then (while Giroux was a question mark) and Vinny was elite while no one knew how the 3 habs players would turn out.
And good lord, we were so close to trading Stamkos, good he didnt.

Tampa
Curtis McElhinney
Jordan Leopold

Columbus
Brett Connolly

Tampa gets a backup goalie so vasy can get more playing time in the AHL and also gets a veteran defense man for the playoffs and to replace Gudas for the time being.

Columbus gets a young top 9 forward, potential top 6 if Connolly actually gets more playing time, which he cannot get in Tampa due to all the forward depth.

tbay4life

1.) 25 Feb 2015 11:54:05
I know I was one of the firsts to say they should send Vasilevski back to the minors to let him develop. I still think that might be the best thing for his future, but 1. I'd wanna have a better replacement than McElhinney and 2. the way they're splitting games (Vasi getting around 30-40% of the starts) I can live with it.

Oh, and Connolly is worth more than a mediocre backup at best and a 6th/7th D.

2.) Bishop isn't playing as good as he should so they better keep vasilesky

08 Jul 2014 07:01:34
Tampa is set on goalies and probably has too many now. Florida will need a goalie when Luongo retires so maybe.

Tampa
Ekblaad
Florida
Vasilevski
Tampa 1st 2015
NYR 1st 2015

Probably won't happen but you never know.

tbay4life

1.) Probably won't happen? LOL! It won't, trust me.

2.) 08 Jul 2014 14:24:05
Vasilevski is a future top 10 goalie in the league.
Love Ekblad, but that's clearly too much for him.
Also, noone knows if Bishop will be that good again this season. And he's a FA after this season.
So Vasilevski sure won't hurt the Bolts

3.) With Bishop free agent at the end of the season tampa needs to hang on to vasilevski. Not to mention Tampa gives up way too much in this trade. One of the best prospects in the world (I'd say better than Ekblad!) And two first round picks in a very deep draft? I know Ekblad went first overall this year but it was such a weak draft. There is a case to be made he would have been a borderline top 10 just last year. Definitely behind Mackinnon Barkov Drouin and Jones then you have guys like Monahan nurse Nichushkin. I think Ekblad is overrated by going number one he's not like other top picks hell be solid but far from a franchise cornerstone or generational talent like vasilevski could be

4.) 08 Jul 2014 15:22:59
Plus bishop will be leaving tampa asap once he's a ufa, no one wants to play there. Same with stamkos

5.) Nobody wants to play in Tampa which is why Callahan didn't test free agency and Boyle took less money to play there over Toronto. They have a future no state tax and good weather that'll draw people. I don't think there's room for bishop long term not that he necessarily wouldn't want to be there

6.) Colton Orr for Subban.

PROBABLY WON'T HAPPEN!!

Please Don't Waste the Computer Space.

GET REAL!!

7.) Which Subban

8.) Hate to break it to you all but 99% of these trades have never and will never happen. You're not breaking any hearts with those revelations

9.) 08 Jul 2014 20:36:21
Beleaf, you are just mad, and delusional.
Prepare yourself for the butt hurt, when Stammer resigns in the off-season following the 2014-2015 season (when he becomes eligible to do so).

10.) How much do you think Stamkos will get Draisaitl and other lightning fans? Double digits probably

11.) 09 Jul 2014 13:56:02
Ya, easily double digits. I think it depends on what Toews and Kane will get, and it will be around that figure then.
Stamkos might be a better player than Toews, but Toews is an incredible leader, so I'd say they shoudl get approx the same money.

But Tampa is a low tax state, so it might be a bit less than JT and PK

12.) 10.5 ×8 yrs the market is set

08 Jul 2014 05:28:08
Two prospects that cannot seem to do well in their current team system. So a trade could help these two rejuvenate their career and meet the potential they are suppose to be.

Tampa
Larsson
New Jersey
Connolly

Thoughts?

tbay4life

1.) Good trade in my opinion

2.) I don't mind it from a tampa standpoint I think Connolly will be great in a place where he gets a chance to play. There would have to be another move on tampas part though because there is currently no where for Larsson to play in the lineup

23 Jun 2014 03:24:53
Tampa needs defense to compliment Hedman.
Tampa
Jack Johnson
Columbus
Teddy Purcell
Brett Connolly
28th pick

tbay4life

1.) 23 Jun 2014 11:45:39
I like it! I'm just not sure if CBJ take this.

2.) As a Tampa fan I would love that deal. We are looking to move Purcell Connolly can be a top 6 forward and has no room in Tampa and the 28th pick in a weaker draft is a decent trade chip can probably get more than its worth. Jack Johnson can be shaky but he would improve Tampa d greatly.

Let me give it a shot.
1. Player or coach with the best or worst mustache and beard.
2. Which team will be the most surprising this coming season.
3. Next star player to be traded in a blockbuster.
4. Best arena name? Worst?
5. Who will be the next players inducted to the HHOF in 2015.

tbay4life

1.) 12 Sep 2014 14:36:27
1. MacLean as a coach, Hartnell as a player, also like Gudases
2. Isles
3. Eric Staal
4. Going with my bolts twice here: Amalie Arena as the worst, TBTimesForum was the best.
5. No idea

2.) 1) Paul MacLean and George Paros
2) Canucks
3) Green
4) best Toronto or Montreal worst Buffalo maybe

3.) 1. MacLean is the obvious choice for coach
Crosby has a more pathetic stache than my 12 year old cousin. Burns looks like a mountain man with a full mustache and beard haha.
2. I have a good feeling about Florida.
3. E. Kane
4. Madhouse on Madison best. TD garden worst (you don't go there to plant corn and taters) Prudential, American Airlines, Pepsi, and Honda centers are boring billboards and lame sounding.
5 Lidstrom, Fedorov, Andreychuk, and Recchi with Kariya, Roenick, and Lindros as runner-ups.

4.) Lindros will get inducted soon enough, and is maybe a better hockey player than most other eligible inductees, but I'd rather have guys who were more about the game and less about themselves get in.

5.) ^love him or hate him lindros dominated the nhl for years. he should be in the hall of fame IMO

6.) I agree Dr. and he's got to be inducted in the next couple years if not this year. Just saying dedication to the game is just as important as the players skill in my eyes and that if it came down to Andreychuk, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Recchi, or Lindros, Lindros would be waiting another year. Lindros was a poor sport and a diva IMO, but it's competitive in terms of eligibility and career success, and don't think he's as deserving of that honor quite yet.

7.) A better justification could be that it's much more difficult to carry yourself in a respectable way and show good character in everything you do when you're in the spotlight and under that much pressure and the tougher road merits a higher, or in this case sooner, honor.

Tampa signs Bishop 2 years at 5.95 per year.
I think it is a good signing. Gives vasilevsky and gudlevskis time to develop.

tbay4life

1.) Its a good signing because he is their number 1 goalie.

2.) Looks like the price is set for Bernier now

3.) For bernier to make that kinda money he would need to have a season like bishop just had before that injury he was the best goalie this season

4.) Bernier played as good as Bishop this year the leafs got out shot every game and had a good playoff spot before he got injured they had the second spot and tampa the third

24 Jul 2014 06:41:26
Wondering who will be the next unwanted Canuck forward sent to the leafs and who will be the unwanted canuck defenseman sent to the lightning.

tbay4life

1.) I wouldn't mind Higgins or Laperiere

2.) Likely none. the golden days are over.

3.) 24 Jul 2014 16:23:40
bieksa and bonino :D lol

4.) 24 Jul 2014 20:12:30
How is Bonino unwanted in VAN?
He was the main piece going back in the Kesler trade and from what I hear they like him alot

5.) Thats was obviously a joke draisaitl

6.) 25 Jul 2014 01:48:19
how did you not see I was joking? honestly, do you have the social skills of sheldon cooper?

7.) 25 Jul 2014 15:48:41
Lol, didn't think about it too much, but you two are obviously right, lol.
Btw: Love Sheldon!

8.) Where is laperiere these days? I think he's still with the blues

Tampa clears cap to give bishop or stamkos extensions Calgary gets better defense to help giordano

Tampa
2nd
5th
c level prospect
Calgary
Carle

tbay4life

1.) With the contract set up and projected cap increases tampa will be fine in attempting to extend Stamkos and I'm not sure they give bishop a big extension with vasilevski and gudlevskis knocking on the door

11 Jul 2014 07:15:06
I just have this feeling that Lindback might be the next Mike Smith. We all saw how franz jean ruined smith in tampa and then sean burke turns him into olympian in phoenix. I bet the same will happen to lindback.

Any trade involving eric would probably have to involve jordon and jared staal as well.

So basically two players that disappear in the playoffs for another two players that disappear in the playoffs. JK. But the sharks would decline, thornton and marleau still perform better than the sedins in the regular season.

Washington declines, doesn't get enough for Green

Sorry Tampa would still not be able to afford Phaneuf. And even if a trade where phaneuf would go to Tampa, toronto would have to retain more salary and most likely it would be Matt Carle going to toronto.

I agree tinordi is not worth grabner and a second, but the only reason garrison and gorges got traded for second round picks, is that the canucks and canadiens were looking for cap relief and wanted to dump salary.

Yes, stamkos will resign.
Yes, Tampa should sign him. I can expect Stamkos to get less than what Kane/Toews has due to Florida's low taxes. Just look at Callahan for example, he wanted 7+ million annual average, he took 5.8 million when the deal was made.(correct me if i'm wrong on the numbers). Plus, Ben Bishop is most likely gone, that clears 5+ million right there, ohlund will be gone, coburn will be gone next season, that clears up more space. Plus filppula or garrison can be traded or even better carle, though I doubt people want carle's contract, so I don't see what is there to worry about. And as for palat, johnson, hedman, kucherov and drouin, who is saying they won't have a similar situation where they take less salary due to Florida's tax like callahan did?

I expect him to be on an all star team this year hopefully with 60+ points. He is leading the nhl in points right now with 7.

I love Stamkos, Hedman and Bishop, but this is my favourite TB lineup back when they won the cup.
