Colorado isn't tight against cap but has an internal cap they must stay within. Taking a guy who is not fit to play in nutivaara @2.5 is the differance between that 1.4 him and byram make. Coincidental I think not. Byram is the LHD needed to join Columbus. He might actually play with Jones so werenski can go back with savard making a deadly top 4. Byram wins Calder

Eugene signed him based on potential so it could still work out but with Tierney overtaking white playing time, white becomes expandable.With Tierney, brown and Duclair being Ottawa's 2nd line and all being RFAs Whites 4.5 can be used to help sign each as they will all get 3-4 million.
Great trade getting Brown from Florida for a 4th. Great defensive D partner for chabot. Then Lauzon becomes chabots offensive D partner when needing offence. Gives them more options with Chabot
Zborbil and senyshyn with Debrusk was the Bruins big mid teens draft picks all in same draft to start future of bruins after Bergeron,Marchand and Chara age and retire. Too bad only Debrusk seems to be working.
Zborbil and senyshyn are still young enough to turn things around but for now they seem like busts. Maybe changing teams and playing year full time on Ottawa nhl roster could change their career paths. Worth the risk for a rebuilding Ottawa team
Boston gets a Boston boy to platoon with coyote as 3rd line C with Ritchie as their LWer. Solid 3rd line. Then when krejci contract is up white moves up to 2nd line. He gets to learn from a great vet leadership in Boston and possibly moods into player deserving the money he gets. Long term gain for bruins. If white never plays into his contract no biggy as Boston won't be hurt if his play does. Huge reward if it works down the road. Perfect project for future of the bruins

Yzerman wants Tim Stutzle as moritz Seider is very tight with tim. So tight he gave Tim great praise to Mannheim's coach and if it wasn't for Stevie Y wanting seider to go to Grand Rapids they'd play all year together. Instead they settled for 2 weeks at Christmas where the 2 were given high praise for how they acted very mature together throughout tournament unlike Fellow German Dominik Bokk who acted very childish and rude to hotel workers(st.louis made good call on that trade).
Anyways Detroit gets their guy and Ottawa gets 4th pick and a former 1st rd2019 in joe veleno..1 pick lower for a good prospect.. not bad

While I can agree that Yzerman could be very interested in Stutzle, there is no guarantee that he is there at #3.
Also trading our best C prospect in Veleno is counter productive as that is one of our week points.
Stutzle himself is still considered a potential Winger rather than a Center. Obviously that could change but it’s been debated on what he fits best with.
I just don’t see us paying that much to move up one spot, now we could maybe add Cholowski or someone else but not Veleno.

The 3 players that Carolina would trade to the Jets would be doing what the Jets did last season trying to fill holes in their lineup with a forward prospect which the Jets have enough of, 4/ 5 nonphysical d-man and a unneeded goalie. Fleury is a RFA who will expect a big raise, Mattheos who is no better than Ves and Reimer an overpaid backup. The Jets need to acquire a true #2 center, 2 big physical stay at home d-men which this trade doesn't answer.

Not only did they get a great backup but they made it easier for st.louis to sign petro thus possibly keeping him out of their division when they are ready to compete

However, if your team needs to get in the playoffs he is a ghost
How valuable is Bennett if your team somehow missed the playoffs.
That’s why right now Bennett has no value unless a gm thinks 100% his team is in a playoff spot. However, due to injuries and C.V. even right now no team can guarantee their spot in playoffs, this is why he is difficult to trade as gms won’t spend capital for a regular season flopper.
Come trade deadline things change because some teams know they are in the playoffs guarenteed thus tend to deal for the Bennett tuoe(season pooper playoff performer) thus Bennett value gets teams 2nd rounders for these guys.
If a player can’t help you get into the playoffs then his regular season value is low.
That’s why so many grinders are dealt at deadline time not this time of year

However, like the kappy deal ,with Pittsburg, there were 3 minor leaguers and a 4th liner involved to go with kappy a 1st and prospect just to make everything work for both teams.
Throwing in lower valued players to make cap or roster size compliance happens about 10% of the time.
Grabner for 5 non nhl roster players is prime example.
Toronto had a huge list of AHL contracts that year so had to berid a bu ch to move forward so got an nhl player for non nhl players at the time.
Since Teams have 3 numbers they need to comply with the 1st is 23 nhl contracts then next 50 standard contract nhl+ELC+2 way deals then 100 which is all nhl level contracts +AHL contracts + non signed draftees
So throwins happen and engvall is Toronto’s throwin
Whether you agree if his skill or not he would be in 10 teams 3rd lube easily this year. Just not the good teams hence why he is a 4th liner when all is healthy in Toronto
His contract is also one of the best contracts to bury due to how that formula works it costs .175 to do so this the team saves 1.075 toward your cap if you bury him during off days so that’s value in it sel
