Canucks- Miller, OEL, Podkolzin, Dermott, Rathbone
Predators- Johansen, Sissons, Glass, Fabro

Canucks and Predators trade bad contracts and swap young players. Canucks gain future cap flexibility while the Predators get offensive help to try and make a playoff push.

To Canucks- Benn, Harley, 2024 1st
To Stars- Miller, Rathbone

Dallas rids themselves of Benn's contract and get a better player for a slightly lower cap hit and squire a good young defenceman. Canucks collect assets for the future and gain cap flexibility much sooner. Rathbone also doesn't appear to have a place on the Canucks blue line with Hughes in the lineup and Harley could replace him as a good young defence prospect for the Canucks.

To Canucks- Murray, Muzzin, Kerfoot, Robertson, 2023 1st, Niemela
To Maple Leafs- Demko, OEL, Schenn, Dermott

Canucks and Maple Leaf's swap some bad contracts in Murray and OEL but Maple Leafs get the goaltender they need to become true Stanley cup contenders and upgrade their defence while the Canucks initiate a rebuild and tank for a high draft pick in a deep 2023 draft.

- Murray can’t stay healthy
- Muzzin’s concussions are really piling up to the point he needs to think long and hard about his post-hockey health
- Demko is the real deal, and since great teams are built from the net out, I can’t imagine why VCR would ever move such an important building block.

Goalies are like Kickers in the NFL. Not much trade value.

Canucks- Miller, OEL, Schenn

Maple Leafs- Muzzin or Brodie, Kerfoot, Liljegren, Kampf, Niemela

Maple Leafs add a top tier two-way forward and upgrade defensively. Maple Leafs are in win now mode and taking on OEL should be a risk they are willing to take, especially since they aren't going to be paying much more over the next two years compared to the defender they would be trading. Canucks gain cap flexibility gaining shorter contracts to at can be flipped for picks and prospects and acquire a quality right-handed defence prospect in Niemala making it easier to swallow losing Miller.

Toronto needs cap flexibility too. They dont have the room to add that much extra cap as they currently have just over $700k in cap space.

2.) 17 Jul 2022 23:14:43
the gem of the deal is JT. not getting him for those players.

3.) 18 Jul 2022 01:55:21
While getting rid of OEL and Schenn would be nice for Vancouver I doubt they'd want any of those Toronto players except Liljegren and he isn't worth Miller by himself.

4.) 18 Jul 2022 14:52:11
Clearly you have no clue who Niemela is….

5.) 18 Jul 2022 16:28:27
Clearly you have no clue about player values.

Speaking of Niemela (5'11/ 160lbs), I find Finnish Players, especially Defensemen have a difficult time making it in the NHL. It's much more Physical than Finnish or International League Play. The exception is Miro Heiskanen (6'1/ 190lbs) . Ville Heinola (5'11/ 178lbs) doesn't count yet but is coming along; he made the smart decision to come to North America to play in the AHL to prepare himself. CGY's Jusso Valimaki has Great Size, but his Strength and Physicality are seriously lacking

Only 3 Finn's made the Top-50 Forwards: Barkov (6'3/ 210lbs), Rantanen (6'4/ 215lbs) and Smaller S. Aho (6'0/ 176lbs) 50-100: Hintz (6'3/ 220lbs) and Smaller Teravainen (5'11/ 175lbs) and Granlund (5'10/ 185lbs)

Luckily CGY's 2nd RD Pick Topi Ronni (6'2/ 181lbs) should fill out and be over 200lbs by the time he gets to the NHL and hopefully he comes to play in North America to prepare, otherwise unless it's a Goalie I would shy away from Drafting Finnish Guys; JMO.

Canucks- OEL, Horvat, Dickinson 50% retained salary next season, Poolman 50% retained salary next season, Lockwood
Stars- Benn, Suter, Bishop, Gurianov

Canucks gain future cap flexibility while maybe finding a better fit behind Quinn Hughes while replacing Horvat, who is needed to get the Stars to take OEL. The stars get a better second line centre, some depth pieces, more cap space for this off-season, while moving on from Benn's bloated contract.

1.) 16 May 2022 15:04:22
You can't retain salary for just one season, it has to be the same retention for all remaining years on the contract.

2.) 17 May 2022 00:33:19
Good to know, thanks for the information.

3.) 18 May 2022 18:59:02
I don't see Dallas or the Canucks doing this. It's dumb. Canucks are getting younger. Those Stars players are old except for Gurianov. Canucks are re-tooling. This deal makes NO sense.

That isn’t anywhere near enough for a player that was top 10 in the league in scoring.

Canucks might get 2 of the prospects in this trade.

Miller is top 10 in the league for scoring on a very reasonable contract. Canucks need a lot more to trade Miller.

That is way too much for Boeser.
