Mike Richards, 2015 2nd round pick

Eric Staal

Just a thought. They seem pretty equal. But I want to hear your opinions.

Why do the Kings need another centre? Staal would play on the 2nd or 3rd line; what a waste.

There is no waste, they getting rid of their center and getting a better fit for them, bigger stronger. And a perfect fit for Carolina.

I don't think this would happen from Carolina's side. They invested a lot of asserts, money and term to bring in brother Jordan to be the #2 centre, based in large part on Eric being there. ES is the face of the franchise and with the challenges of entertaining a southern US fan base, trading someone of that stature would require a big splash in return. Richards and a #45-50 overall won't cut it.

The trade is just plain bad. LA doesn't need Staal and wouldn't be able to plug him into a proper role, and the trade would open a big hole for Carolina that Richards would not be able to fill. This would make both teams worse.

Richards played 4th line for L.A. much of last season and playoffs if that tells you anything.

Oilersblue17 you do know Eric staal is roughly 5 inches and 20 pounds bigger than mike Richards right? Eric staal is the shizzite in Carolina the fans there would Go nuts if they traded him for Richards and a second IMO.+they gave up a lot for Jordan and even traded for Jared staal. I would be shocked if Marc staal isn't there too Next year

Wake up chirp this doesn't make both teams worse. Whether staal plays center or wing he's an upgrade over mike Richards and Jeff carter could move to the wing too. A couple years ago before bolland supermanned Richards maybe but Carolina won't make this deal #staalmafia IMO

@hockeygodsgift it tells me that Los Angeles can't plug Richards into a proper hole. Staals a better player/I think fit in Los Angeles but not going to happen #staalmafia
