Just watching the Quiz. The Staal to TO discussion came up (watch the trade proposals fly lol). For the record, I DO NOT think he will be traded but what would Toronto have to give up? Here is what I am thinking the trade would look like.

TOR: Staal

CAR: Kadri, Lupul, Finn, 2015 1st (lottery protected).

1. I think the Staals would be traded together.
2. CAR is rebuilding, don't think Lupul is the right piece there.

You probably have to start with Kadri and Nylander and add from there.
Dont forget, Eric is an experienced, but still relatively young strong two way legit first line center capable of putting up 80+ points a year.

Don't disagree with that Drais. Carolina would have to take some salary back though in any trade.

I am also basing the trade on the fact that he is just under two years away from being a UFA. Tough to justify two or three top prospects/picks ++ for a guy who could walk.

I don't agree about the Staal's being traded together. Would they like to be? Sure! Does it have to/will it happen? no.

Yea you might be right there, but I still think they'd prefer that.
I wouldn't necessarily do that deal, but that's what I would ask for if I'm Caroline. Real #1 centers don't come along too often.
So I think Kadri and Nylander would definitely be the starting price.

Again: Staal is still a legit #1 center. You don't get those for scraps. If you want them, you got to give for them.
Could also try Kadri, Gardiner and 2015 1st.

You have to remember Leafs would be releaving Carolina of a huge contract. No 1st rounders required. Kadri, Gardner, and a 2nd is plenty.
