With everything that is going on in the Leafs injury report:

Carolina Acquires: Jake Gardiner, 7th

When Lupul comes back we keep Panik/Booth as a spare player who switches out and gets scratched

Here, you have two plauers who are soon to be ufas on the top pairing. Reason phaneuf isn't on the top pairing is because when he is realied on too much he can cause problems. It would be easier for phaneuf to be paired with young gun rielly, so u have an offensive and defensive defenceman paired.

Sekera has way more value than Gardiner, it would be Sekera for Gardiner and a 2nd, the asking price is high. I also don't know if Erat would be a good fit, let alone want to play in Toronto.

You do realise Sekera is a UFA right? And Gardiner has been their best blueliner of late anyways. Leafs pass

You are forgetting about Lupul, where does he fit in? Toronto doesn't need more F's the need help on the back line
