Number 3 d-man who is paid like a number 1 for a 23 yrs old guy who still has the potential to become a 1st line center. Even if they really need defense, leafs pass.

Bill waters did tweet that this is what it would take. O'reilly is a ufa after next season. That will lower his trade value

Cd1 your valuations are way off, especially about Phaneuf (though he is, in a vacuum, "overpaid").

But what makes your comment interesting is the idea of ROR becoming a #1 C, which is what would be expected of him if he were traded to TO. The leafs would probably re-sign him, 8 years 7 million/year and of course, he would under perform and be constantly ridiculed.

In other words, putting the expectation that he will become a #1 C in this market is setting him up for failure.
