Leafs- B. Richie, Troy Vance, 1st 2016, 3rd 2017
Stars-Phaneuf (1.75m retained), Spaling, 4th 2016

Leafs need picks so that mark hunter can get more prospects, they also need some developping prospects for the future. Retaining salary on Phaneuf isn't ideal but its the only way to get rid of him. Spaling is just in extra to collect more draft picks.

Dalllas are desprit for D but with not much room for salary they need to find a top 2 defenseman. Phaneuf can play easily top 2 in dallas with Gologowki or Klingberg.

Thoughts? i'm new to this so please give feedback.

I've seen lots of Phaneuf to Stars trades lately and this one is pretty good. Not that I'm an expert or anything haha. Anyways with retained salary on Phaneuf like you've done I could see this going through. Helps both teams in the direction their headed. Good post.

Take out Spaling and the 3rd and it could wok. Don't think the Leafs would trade a player they just acquired and the Stars can't afford the extra 2.6 mil cap hit now that they signed Oduya.
