Just a thought that would help both clubs.

Buffalo Trades:
Cody Franson( 2 yr left @ 3.3 mill per)

Detroit Trades:
Kyle Quincey (1 yr left @ 4.25 mill per)
Jakub Kindl (2 yr left @ 2.4 mill per)

Detroit clears much needed cap space and adds another RH D-man in order to add balance to the line-up.

Buffalo adds depth to their Left side of Defense in order to create their own set of rightys & leftys pairings.

Maybe draft picks are added, not sure who would add though.

New Defense Lines for both clubs:

Sabres:

Gorges-Ristolainen
Quincey-Bogosian
M. Weber- Pysyk
Ex. Colaiaccovo, Donovan

Red Wings:
Kronwall-Green
Dekeyser-Franson
Ericsson-Marchenko
Ex. Smith, Ouellet

Line-ups are changeable, just my first thoughts based on where players end up.

I know Buffalo just signed Franson. I was thinking this deal could happen at trade deadline if Franson wasn't panning out in Buffalo.I should have mentioned that. Based on what I guess is Buffalo isn't interested in trading any of their other right handed D-men making Franson the potential odd man out down the line. However, this is completely my own speculation, I was trying to add depth to Buffalo's lefty weakness and Detroit's righty weakness. I suppose Buffalo could just trade using Draft picks but that would add another 4-6 mill. Choosing to add a player limits the cap coming back.

As for the fact Detroit could have signed Franson, Yes they could have at the start of Free Agency. Right now they are tight against the cap and are at the contract limit with the Cleary signing. So they would have to make a trade anyways in order to clear cap and contract space.

I know I was way off, I was making an idea trying to factor team needs.
