Yzerman is definitely not working on a trade. Why would he? Tampa can push for a cup why give that up? Not to mention Stamkos negotiations are ongoing. Whether he signs or not trading him takes Tampa further away from their goal of winning a cup and Stamkos who has a NTC continues to say he wants to win in Tampa. If he was trying hard to move Stamkos why make a statement? Would only make him look worse if he moved him.

Didn't he say something close or even exactly like that with St-Louis? He pulled the trigger there when he was trying to cover up a bad relationship with him.

I don't believe he ever came out and issued a statement expressly to say St. Louis was not going to be traded. He may have said he wasn't seeking a deal or denied a trade demand but I don't remember him saying he for sure would not trade him and then go back on his word. Also that was a situation of the player wanting out this is a very different situation.

They say a lot of things. Anything could happen. I get you want to win a cup, that's the main goal but getting something would bet better than not.
