I believe that EDM will trade the 3rd overall pick for Phaneuf at 50 percent retained, Clarkson and the 8th overall pick.

I believe you're wrong. $12mil in salary for two overpaid and underperforming players? Leafers pipe dream. This wouldn't even work on Xbox.

He'd be the worst when you consider his contribution vs his pay grade. $7mil to perform like a 2/3 dman is awful. Marincin is already better than Phaneuf.

I think you've got your rose-colored "leafs can do no wrong" glasses on again, jayman. Phaneuf is an ok dman at best, and definitely not worth $7mil/yr. he's been steadily getting worse too. He's a #2 dman at his best, and he rarely plays at his best.

Who is really WORTH their contract.
1. Have an old contract and are underpaid.
2. Have an old contract and are not worth it.
3. Sign a new contract that seems to over pay them.

Phaneuf was worth the deal when it was done. I feel history will show it was not a bad deal. The way the season ended has coloured every ones thinking.

All that said if Leafs can make a deal that benefits the Team and helps change the "CULTURE" it should be done. Getting Phaneuf out of the Spot Light would be good for him and Florida might be the right place.
