Ok mcdonnaght is great and yes I would prefer him in a habs uniform but some say on this site that he's a bether player then pk This is just ridiculous! It was a bad move to trade him but considering the fact that chara was trade for nothing then this is nothing! The habs are still the greatest hockey organisation to have been ever put on! Montreal is to hockey what new york is too baseball and what Lakers is too basketball!

1.) 17 Aug 2014
Blah blah you wanna blow the whole Hab roster blah blah

2.) 17 Aug 2014
Two McDonaghs in salary are one Subban
Not really.

3.) 17 Aug 2014
I have to applaud u here montrealfinest because you have actually put your team down. As is New York isn't that great at Baseball and lakers aren't that great anymore so that means your saying the habs are sucky right now. Well played boy, well played

where did that random chara comparisson come from? that trade was made like 15 years ago and done by the isles, why would you expect anything less from them?

5.) 17 Aug 2014
@mtl finest

McDonagh is a more complete Defenseman, no he isn't as offensively gifted as pk, but he's head and shoulders a better dman on the whole, please understand this, pk does not deserve to be the highest paid dman in the league. not by a long shot, being the 7th dman on team canada and barely touching ice is a testament to that. he was a product of the market and salary cap growth.

his norris is very much tainted, not only it being a shortened season, but also with karlsons injury

side note: the norris has become the biggest joke award since the selke. the norris doesn't go to the best dman, it goes to the dman with the most points, just like the selke goes to best 2 way all star player, not the best defensive forward.

the greatest organization changes every year, its the winner of the stanley cup, by my count it hasn't been the habs in 2 decades.

they don't give out awards for having the most cups in league history, or for being the oldest franchise, frankly, in this day an age, no one cares. its all about the here and now for todays NHL, and in todays NHL the habs are a mediocre team with an above average goalie.

as chirp would tell you, you need to stop posting before taking off your rose coloured habs glasses

Ovie, if subban was with the rangers and mcdonagh was with montreal you would be saying subban is better. and montreal finest you are full of you know what

7.) 18 Aug 2014
Pretty well known that mcdonaugh is a much more defensively responsible and well rounded when compared to Subban. This could change over time or it might not but that is what it is right now.

8.) 18 Aug 2014
Maybe so hey bud, but he is not head and shoulders better then subban. I don't have an issue with someone saying he's better then subban but at least be sensible about it, I mean the last I checked he isn't bobby orr. I would rather have subban and i'm willing to bet if you asked all 30 gms who they would rather have at the same salary at least 20 of them would want subban. mcdonagh has developed into a good dman being paired with a top notch defensive dman like girardi his whole career has done wonders for his game.

9.) 18 Aug 2014
It doesn't hurt having Markov either hab. I'm not a big Phaneuf fan but his partner has been Gunnarsson. If Dion had a real #1/2 d man to play with and had his minutes trimmed a bit, there would be a huge difference in his game. Both Subban & McDonagh have good partners. Like someone else mentioned, Subban is more explosive offensively and fun to watch. He then explodes, or self destructs in his own zone. If Subban matures defensively, I'd rather him on my team. At the moment, McDonagh would be my choice.

10.) 18 Aug 2014
There are a lot of players who are more complete than Subban.

You can't argue player's value (salary) in a vacuum. It's ridiculously contextual. That's any players salary.

11.) 19 Aug 2014
I agree hab that he is not head and shoulders better and that Subban does bring a higher amount of offence to his game.
It depends on the team needs for the mcdonaugh vs Subban debate though. Is it a internal budget team (ie ottawa) is it a very close to cap ceiling team (boston Chicago etc) does the team already have a pp qb (doughty karlsson Keith etc) most team are looking for that offensive defenseman so Subban would be there guy, but teams like Chicago and boston may look for the more well rounded defender. I'm sure all teams would like him if possible though.

12.) 19 Aug 2014
True but what your saying is mcdonagh is a better dman in his own zone. what i'm saying is subban would be better in his own zone if he had a defensive stalwart like girardi as his d pair. markov is good all around but of all 4 players mentioned girardi is the best defensive dman of them all.

13.) 19 Aug 2014
Hab, leafs17's post sums it up. you know i'm not a hater.

14.) 19 Aug 2014
Leafs17. wow an actual logical leafs fan! I applaud you good sir!

15.) 20 Aug 2014
Good read haha cheers

16.) 21 Aug 2014
I would take Subban before McDonough but its close. They are both in my oppinion anyways in the grouping after the big 6 Weber, Keith, Doughty, Suter, Chara and Pietrangelo
