Tor: Phaneuf, rights to Bolland, rights to Franson
Edm: 1st 2014. *If Ekblad is already taken.
Edm get badly needed "vet" defenseman in Phaneuf (hometown). Not a #1 but a solid #2-3.
Bolland would fit perfectly in Edm. good 2way vet C with grit and good hands.
Franson is closer to home and could easily be a top 4 dman if he works on positioning. 6'5", good hands, can shoot, pass and hit, skating only so-so.
Tor draft Bennett, Rein* or Drais*.
Or. none of this happens and we carry on making up rumors cause it's fun. ;D

Edm become better immediately. Probably won't happen but it is totally plausible. Edm needs to get better now, can't really afford to continue this rebuild for another 3-4 years.

You can automatically take out cup teams because most of them are in a cap crunch. And rebuilding teams and small markets that can't afford to pay a second pair d thst. And teams who are unwilling to pat a second pair offensive defenseman like a stud all around d. I dodoubt any other teams pay him that much sure someone would have probably bit at 5. 5 or 6 but don't talk like half the league would be lining up to give him top10 in the league money

I suspect that you are right. However, these teams would not have to give up players for him.
11.) ^ I think is Phaneuf had made it to FA, he would have gotten 5 years 6. 75 or 6 years 6 million. You have to factor in the canadian dollar and you have to factor in the home town element.
But the point is market value. If a team could afford it and the team needed a d-man - they would pay the same.
