Ok so Colorado pageau rumors are starting let me throw these possibilities out there.

Ott : pageau, 2021 1st, thyconic, chlapic

Col : Byram, 2020 2nd

Or

Ott : pageau, chlapic, Thompson

Col : Byram

Col has the team for a cup run and adding a playoff performing 3rd line center without losing a roster player could be the thing that pushes them to the cup. Ottawa is in rebuild so a big young piece or 1st is a must.

Colorado gets the big fish rental with a chance to sign him, plus the backup option in chlapic in both deals.

In deal one they get a downgrade on Byram to tychonic but add next year's 1st from Ottawa in return for this year's 2nd.

In deal two they also get a downgrade on Byram but nowhere near as significant of a downgrade as Thompson is sure to be a top 4 NHL dman in his own right minimum.

And Ottawa gets back a stud dman prospect they should have had in the first place with a possibility of drafting another in this year's draft while Colorado gets a shot at the cup with very little risk.

You won't be getting Byram for either of those deals. Poor offers really.

How are those poor offers thunder turkey?

Pageau himself is worth a mid to late 1st and chlapic is guaranteed carbon copy or better than pageau in future worth a 2nd or 3rd as of now.

In trade 1 they also get next year's 1st (of a weak team I might add), as well as a future top 6 dman possible top 4.

In trade 2 they also get a future top 4 possible top 2 right shot dman just drafted in 1st round himself who literally just carried team Finland's defense group in the world juniors, making him a very small downgrade to byram.

Plus on top of all that, there is no 1st or anything else for that matter involved on Colorado side on the 2nd trade and nothing but a 2nd in the 1st trade for a great prospect who has yet to log NHL minutes.

I get byram is great and all, but he's certainly not McDavid/ Crosby value great. The idea is to come up with a trade that benefis both teams as much as possible and these deals do exactly that.

Byram fits Ottawa's rebuild

While Thompson or tychonic and the 1st make up for the loss of byram while it is a slight downgrade or and unknown trade off in terms of what the 1st becomes.

And pageau joins an already stacked NHL roster to give them a shot at the cup. And adding chlapic gives them the backup option for the future if pageau decides not to resign in offseason.

A small downgrade on the future back end for a legit shot at the cup this year? Those types of trades happen all the time. Just ask pittsburgh, Boston, and Chicago!

Not to mention the prospect pool Colorado currently has. Sacrificing 1 for a shot at the cup is not unheard of.
