^ yeah bc the Leafs have so many d-men that can replace him no questions asked. Even better let's trade him for a closer to retirement forward who can't play D. Genius, pure genius

Phaneuf is a really good dman, he makes mistakes and is frustrating but he's had to do too much on weak teams. Play him 23-24 minutes a night and he'll be way better

Phaneuf is not a top 2 defenseman, sure he plays 25 minutes per game but that is one of the reasons Leafs are so bad defensively. Too slow, bad defender, not captain material. Leafs, I believe shopped him hard but there was no takers. Speaks volumes.
