Leafs just signed Mike Santorelli at 1 year 1.5 million dollars

Leafs need new Management

Johnny Utah

1.) Its only a 1 year deal relax

2.) Santorelli is a replacement for Mcclement. Considering it is only 1 year for $1.5 million, it is a good contract. There are worse contracts being given out for marginally better players.

3.) 04 Jul 2014 00:52:42
If he plays like he did in Vancouver you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

4.) Leafs will finish 1 point out of the playoffs, the leafs should trade all valuable players and rebuild properly.ie elite players at top of draft. You need elite talent to win a cup and toronto can't get elite talent in trades or free agency. It's not going to happen they will be mediocre forever. Go leafs go

5.) 04 Jul 2014 05:19:47
i don't see the problem with this signing?

Either Leafs management doesn't know what they are doing (which is most likely the case) or they are preparing for the McDavid sweepstakes.

Sign Ott for entertainment purposes

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
Frattin-Holland-Abbot
Komarov-Ott-Orr

Rielly-Gardiner
Phaneuf-Robidas
Franson-Polak

Bernier
Reimer

This roster won't get you in the playoffs but with Ott, Orr, and Komarov playing together that would be fun to watch the shananigans they would get up too.

Johnny Utah

1.) LOL. They just signed Santorelli for 1 year 1.5 million. Why??

2.) Santorelli is a good pickup and will bring energy to the 4th line and will get more points then McClement.
The Leafs I hope still pickup Legwand and then they are set at Centre.
For all you people out there with?? about Santorelli he is a good pickup

3.) 04 Jul 2014 01:52:04
I agree for the money and term I think people will be pleasantly surprised

How to properly rebuild Toronto. Please note I am going into 2014-2015 tanking and going after McDavid. Give the prospects NHL experience. Build trade players value.

Resign (not including the Marlies players who won't play in NHL next season anyways)
Holland-2 yrs/1m per
D'Amigo-2 yrs/800,000 per
Bodie-1 yr/600,000
Ashton-1 yr/700,000
Gardiner-3 yrs/3.2m per
Ranger-1 yr/900,000
Reimer-1 yr/2.5m
Franson-1yr/3.5m per

UFA to sign
Komorov-2 yrs/2.5 per

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
D'Amigo-Holland-Brown (keep them together for NHL experience all season)
Ashton-Gauthier-Komorov

Gardiner-Rielly
Franson-Phaneuf
Gleason-Polak
Ranger

Bernier
Reimer

Trade deadline
HAVE A FIRESALE IT IS TIME FOR A PROPER REBUILD
Players to trade for prospects and draft picks
-Clarkson (If he has a tradeable year)
-Phaneuf
-Gleason
-Reimer

After trading Phaneuf ROTATE THE CAPTAINCY on a weekly basis to build leadership then in the 2015-2016 season rotate it monthly.

Draft McDavid if Leafs win the Lottery and keep rebuilding.

It is not time to add to the Leafs. It is time to tank and do a serious rebuild and culture change.

Johnny Utah

1.) Although these are all realistic in my opinion I respectfully disagree with you that the Leafs should start a rebuild and go for McDavid. Yes next year's draft will be incredible but the Leafs core are built to win now and the prospect how great they maybe are still a risk because they are prospects, they are not proven, they may take a year to 3 years to develop which I believe the time they don't have. The Leafs were in a favorable spot in the standings until their 8 game losing streak. The Leafs showed some potential the year before when they faced the Bruins in the playoffs. Their main reason for having the success that they had the season before was because they led the league in hits, blocked shots, fights, and ranked top 3 in penalty kill. This season the Leafs lost a lot of that quality and I believe by regaining the style the Leafs played the season before by bringing the right players through trade or free agency there is no reason but to suggest the Leafs will be a good playoff team once again.

-Realistic Leafs Fan

2.) Might as well trade kessel too if u want to do a proper rebuild he's worth a ton get some good players and picks

3.) ^Oh I forgot to ask a question. What happened to Jay McClement? I think it's a good idea the Leafs keep him. I would prefer him to be our 4th line center than Gauthier.

-Realistic Leafs Fan

4.) The LEafs core are not built to win now. they're built to just barely miss the playoffs.
They need a complete overhaul
As for McClement. Gauthier would be cheaper and why not give McClements spot to a young prospect who could benefit from the use of NHL experience?

5.) Hell no I want the habs to finish last This year only so that we get mcdavid!

6.) The leaf core is not going to finish that far out of the playoffs.

Reimer, Dion, etc. will not get you 1st round picks, and if they do, by the trade deadline most teams know if they will make the playoffs. There is a chance one may not, but it is a risk.
Therefore, if you do, by chance, get 1st round picks they will be lower 1st round picks. This is good for rebuilding but wasteful for trying to get McDavid.

Essentially the leafs need to trade assets that teams like Buffalo ( who I think will work incredibly hard to tank themselves), Edmonton, and Florida. That is IF they are willing to part with their 1st rounders. Not going to be easy.

Then, as a leaf fan, you have to ask should we rebuild again?

How I would build a team and what the Leafs should do. The fourth line of the Leafs is a waste of a line so why not go like this

Line
1-Talent
2-Talent
3-Prospects
4-Checkers

Defense
1-Talent
2-Talent
3-Propects
Enforcer

Johnny Utah

1.) Thing is they have the main pieces they just can't put it 2gether (for offense only)
For defense they just suck

Leafs buy out Gleason?? He had the most heart on the defense and I was excited to see what he could have done this year. He blocks shots, fights, and hits. Please trade Phaneuf!! i'd take Gleason over Phaneuf any day

Johnny Utah

1.) Leafs have better chance

2.) Give nonis a break

Green is useless now, injury case. Leafs need DEFENSIVE defenseman not Offensive defenceman

The was the deal Tampa Bay owners turned down regarding Lecavalier years ago
Montreal: Lecavalier
T.B.: Price, Subban, Pacioretty

How stupid does T.B. feel now. It was different owners back then though

All you people bashing Orr show some respect man. The guy protected this team for years. Remember what it was like before he showed up, this team was pummelled to a pulp.

Boston got rid of Seguin because of off ice issues. There is no way they are going to touch Kane who's head is bigger than the city he lives in.
