Detroit trades Pavel Datsyuk to Washington for Mike Green, Jakub Vrana and 2015 1st
Washington gets a top center to play with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Detroit gets a right handed defenseman, a pick and a prospect. Washington is much better now, Detroit is rebuilding.

Washington doesn't have a number 1 center? I'd take Backstrom over Datsyuk. I don't think an all Russian first line would work.

@IslesBlowButILoveEm history tells us that one Russian is often like having no Russian, that is why your Islanders signed both Nikolai Kulemin & Mikhail Grabovski. Becasue Datsyuk has won the Selke award 3 times and over the last 4 years is averaging almost a pt/gm he would be perfect fit with Ovechkin erasing many of Alex's defensive errors. Detroit goes into a partial rebuild and Washington tries to win it now.

IMO that is good trade for both teams and for Datsyuk. DET gets its right handed Dman, and prospects, WAS gets a top center and Pavel gets a shot at a Cup.

Detroit doesn't need to trade Datsyuk who is signed for 4 years for a defenseman who is now one of 7 and has a year left, a 1st which won't be top 10-15 and a prospect.

Datsyuk could get more if need be but I don't see the need to trade him or the wings trading him at all.

@Datsyuk_Fan13 you are probably correct. But at 36 years of age, he will most likely retire at the end of his contract in 3 years. It seems to me WAS is closer to a cup than DET and a deal to move him could be good for him, DET and WAS. BTW my son totally agrees with your assessment. @IslesBlowButILoveEm would it not be better to have both Datsyuk and Backstrom? BTW how many assists do you think Backstrom gets just because he is on the ice with Ovechkin?

6.) 05 Oct 2014
It would be pretty neato. Caps 1st line would be all Russian and the 2nd would be all Swedish.

7.) 07 Oct 2014
@MG69 I was hoping to make an all Russian line, but who is the 3rd member of the Swedish line after Backsrtom and Johansson?

8.) 08 Oct 2014
Burakovsky. Wouldn't be immediately, but in a year or 2.
