Tor-Phaneuf, Gardiner
Edmonton-Eberle, Nurse

Then:

Trade Kessel. The leafs have become the Toronto Maple Kessels. They set an example for the rest of the team that this guy can cheat on plays all night long because he will eventually score a goal. He is the leafs best player but the value he could get back in a trade is more valuable to the teams success than his points.

Tor-Kessel
Pitt-Malkin or Col-MacKinnon or Ana-Perry or CBJ-Johansen and prospect. Not sure what's available but if Nonis shopped him a bit he would get some offers.

Then trade Lupul at the deadline to a contender for a 2nd round pick or something.

I have been a leaf fan since 1984, man that's a long time. I thought I had seen the worst there was to see from Toronto. But then I looked at their achievements this year.
Kontiola 1.1 million
Gleason 1.5 average still owing
Robidas 3 million
Booth 1.1 million
Fratten .800,000
That's 7.5 million on what. For one Gleason would have been better than robidas so not sure what the point was there . I don't know what to think anymore

Horible trade for edm . oilers could get a lot more for eberle and they dnt want phanuefs contract. nurse is untouchable because he like marincin and klefbom are lights ina horrible defensive core. edm already has shultz they dnt need anotherone

1. That doesn't even get you Eberle alone, not to say combined with one of THE d prospects in the league.
2. Kessel is good and all. But for Malkin or MacKinnon or Perry? You just cannot be serious with that. Kessel isn't even close to having their trade value. Not even close.

7.) 16 Nov 2014
@Draisaitle I agree that Kessel isn't the player that those 3 are. Leafs might have to add a little to make those 3 work. It depends on what teams want, a guys who can score at will playing with a playmaking centre? would Pitt move Malkin for Kessel and Bozak? Bozak fills in at #2 centre and Kessel plays with Crosby?

I don't think so. Malkin isn't just another star. I admit Malkin is one of my favourite players to watch, but he takes a team to another level. He's a true franchise center. Center is the magic word here.
Besides Ovechkin and maybe Perry, there are no wingers that are true franchise players. Franchises are built around #1 centermen.
That's why Malkins and also MacKinnons value is so much higher than Kessels.
Again, I don't want to take anything away from Kessel. He's a top 10 winger in the league for sure. But Malkin is a top 1-5 center in this league. that's just worth much more.

9.) 16 Nov 2014
Kessel for Johansen+, Bozak+ for Yakupov?
