Unfortunately trade cannot happen until after the Vegas draft.

Edmonton does not have to protect Nurse as he's exempt from the draft as fortune would have it. Sekara NTC auto protected, Larsson, and Klefbom have the protected slots all spoken for.

Oilers can protect 4D. Will probably lose Davidson anyway. It's the same reason why oilers brought on Gretzky. McDavid won't ever leave but it's just insurance and make it harder to leave.

It is not in the Oilers best interest to protect 4 d because it means they can only protect 4 Forwards.
Currently they are set up well for the Vegas draft in a 7-3-1 format.
And yes, as unfortune has it. it looks like Davidson is probably the best pick for Vegas to take from Edm.

Davidson will get taken, but oilers could always send vegas a draft pick in return for them not to choose Davidson and someone else, say pouliot or Reinhart, as examples. But only if vegas thinks that'll be more worth it.

Forgot Eberle. Oilers are losing Davidson, Maroon or maybe Brossoit I'd say. So Oil would choose to protect maroon and lose Davidson. Maybe if they sign Russel to a good contract they'll take him instead?

Gentleman's agreement is required to retain Russel. He's a UFA so if he's exposed in the draft he will likely not be taken as he can just wait for July 1 UFA and sign anywhere. He can be exposed, not taken then re-sign with the Oilers.
