I wonders if a gm Will have the ball of trading a star player for a weak team to get a land on mcdavid! This could could be the difference on wether he get fired or a long therm contract and glory on years to come!

Isn't this what bryan murray just did with spezza. I hate to say it but on paper right now Ottawa has the worst team in the league imo. I know spezza asked to be traded but it still looks like a tank job to me maybe mcdavid will end up there and be the next alexander daigle.

The thing is if they would actually pull a move like trying to finish last in the league, the draft lottery could still put them for the 2nd overall, wich would still be great don't get me wrong, but not Mcdavid and you would lose a lot of respect I think as a GM and as an organisation

No one will ever be the next daigle. With all te scouts and development systems daigle situation will never happen again for a top 10 pick. Even the "busts" in the top 10 recently have gone on to have good careers in Europe

a top 10 pick that doesn't end up being at least a top 6 forward/top 4 defenseman is a bust, who cares about their success in europe. a team didn't draft them to play in europe.

Tank job or melynk job? Big difference here also. Ottawa also right now is entering the season with plenty of unproven/half proven talent for some positions. Could work out great might not.

Melynk dream team is spending to the cap floor then making the playoffs or having a respectable season while finishing just outside. The guy is cheap and refuses to spend any money, makes the gm job extremely more difficult when you have great players but simply can't afford them because the owner won't pay.

There's no way Ottawa has a weaker lineup than all of the clear rebuild - top 5 picks from last year- teams. Yes its not better than many other teams but legwand helps a lot

7.) 04 Jul 2014
Panthers are Now way bether then the sens with a good player at each position luongo at goal, ekblad at d, huberdeau at center

8.) 05 Jul 2014
Karlsson > ekblad
Turris > huberdeau, they may Almost equal
Luongo > Anderson of last season.
Andy and lehner have both shown they can be really good so can they stabilize the consistency this season?
Ottawa also has better centers in zibby legwand and turris compared to floridas right now.
Florida has some big name guys but most of these guys are past their primes and aren't what they used to be. They also have some very good up coming talent that isn't quite there yet.

Agree daigle never happens again, but I wouldn't go as far as expecting top 6 / top 4 player in the top 10, plenty of guys in the last 10 years have been drafted top 10 an didn't pan out that way,

10.) 05 Jul 2014
I would say close to 30% of top 10 picks are busts

i look at it this way. you have a top 10 pick, which means you want an impact player to hopefuly become part of your core in apporximately 3-5 years, there aren't many 3rd liners/bottom pair defensemen teams build around.

im not saying that they are all guarantees, of course there will be busts, but obviously they weren't drafted expecting to be busts.
