May sound a bit unrealistic but try to stay with me. Oilers want to be better while they are loaded down the middle. The Leafs finally choose to trade away their core as Kessel hasn't been the guy they need down the stretch.
Leafs:

Oilers:

1.) Currently oilers are loaded at the wings with nobody after RNH down the middle. They need a center a lot more than they need kessel just based on position. They also need guys that can play in their own end

Toronto is 9pts ahead of Edmonton in the standings. So the oilers will get Kessel and possibly the Toronto's 1st pick with a really good chance that Edmonton will beat Toronto in the standings by the end of the year for their 1st round pick alone? Edmonton will likely have the better 1st round pick(Toronto's) and Kessel for what will likely be a weaker pick(Edmonton's).
Such a stupid proposal.
3.) The oilers are the only team who are in a position to trade the first overall pick.

mcdavid/eichel aren't just another centre. you draft one of those 2 and if that gives you a urplus you trade someone else. don't try to convince anyone that EDM, or any team in the league, wouldn't love to have mcdavid or eichel.

The trade deadline is nearing and trade talk is starting to heat up. Franson is a much needed piece to the Avalanches blue line and the Leafs need a top line centre. O'Reilly is a solid two way forward while Franson is a offensively gifted right handed defensemen which adds some value.
1.) I would be more inclined to agree if both players were UFA's and COL was in a better position in terms of the standings. IMO it makes more sense for them to trade for a d-man with some term.

aside from the trade; yes, the leafs need a 1st lien centre, but orielly is not the answer. he's no #1 c.

People saying Kessel sucks and want him gone, but every team has to give up 4 of their best prospects, 1st round picks, and a lung to get that player who apparently sucks. Unreal.
