Leafs need a 2nd and should just stay put at 8th overall IMO
1.) Leafs are not trading gardiner for a 2nd, they are negotiating a contract with him and if he were to get flipped it would be for something of need or a 1st rounder at least
2.) Mysterio he is not worth a 1st and yes they are negotiating right now bc a team would rather trade for someone under contract for the next couple years than one of a RFA status
3.) Gardiner is easily worth a 1st

Gardiner is assuredly worth a first rounder. Not a top 10 pick, but many teams would love to add a player with his skill and potential. Keep in mind he has only been playing defense since he left high school

^ agreed the leafs aren't going to give up all that for a prospect they won't see in a couple years plus outside of top 10 this draft is weak so it's better for them to stay put at 8 bc they will get a decent player and keep kadri along with it
