DET: Debrincat

OTT: Zadina, 1st 2023 (17 overall), 4th 2024.

Debrincat signs an extension for 8 years at 7-8 million a season.

I like this offer but I'd like to see Yzerman hang onto his two 1st rounders. Maybe this same package but with 1 of the three 2nd rounds included and another prospect instead like Hanas or Wallinder.

- I can see DET as a fit, but this is a HUGE underpay for Debrincat.
- Zadina is a bust. (His best season was 10 G, 14 A & -21.)
- OTT will want roster players now more than picks and prospects.

On another note, Stevie Y is setting DET up nicely with lots of picks over the next few years.

@chickenfoot From a Red Wings fan's perspective, the issue with Zadina has been that he has lost confidence in his shot and overthinks his shooting opportunities.

I don't know if its been the lack of a supporting cast in Detroit throughout his career coupled with high expectations on his shoulders for being a high draft pick, but a change of scenery for Zadina might make a huge difference in his game. The $6 million in cap space for Ottawa leftover even after bringing in Zadina can also be leveraged to sign a top 6 roster player.

Keep in mind Ottawa gave up a 1st (7overall), 2nd and a 4th to acquire Debrincat. So a roster player and/ or good prospect with a 1st is not bad for return especially when you know he won’t be resigning next year with you.

DAVE: lost his confidence, bust, whatever you call him he’s a reclamation project and not a key piece in a trade. (He’s too slight for a 4th line role, so his current path is to be a 3rd liner at best. )

DETCMM: when assessing someone’s trade value as an asset, it doesn’t matter to hockey people in the slightest what a team gave up in a trade to acquire said asset, or where he was drafted, etc. I see that a lot on here, and it just doesn’t matter. Furthermore, you’re being generous calling Zadina a roster player, because he isn’t on a good team.

Change that 1st to Detroits 1st Top 10, and the 4th to a 2nd at worst and the conversation can at least get started. As is though, that's nowhere near enough for a 2 time 40 goal scorer like DeBrincat who most likely would take a hometown discount to stay long term with his childhood favorite team.

They either give up their 1st + or they do a straight up swap for Seider, or they give Raymond and a smaller peice or 2.

You can't expect a high end player like DeBrincat for peanuts and projects, it don't work like that.

If Wallinder is involved, Detroit says no thank you to this proposal. Ottawa can keep the Cat. And if Detroit gets him, I wouldn't give him more than $7.5M per year, not for a -31 player on a team that was only a -10 last year. So the Sens were a +21 when ADB was not on the ice? Nope, no thank you.

DeBrincat while yes being a potential 40 goal scorer lacks on the defensive side greatly. Does he hit 40 goals again, I honestly don't think so. I think he can bring you 30 goals every year which is still a great thing to have in a player. I've read Sens want a pick and a prospect. I think they don't want it to drag out into the season so I suppose we will see what they end up getting. Zadina would likely benefit from a change of scenery, but I think his ceiling is a 2nd liner if we are being realistic and an average one at that.

I'm looking at Nashville's #15 pick, with some throw ins.
