Since Edmonton has lost Sekera to injury for the next 6-9 months. They need a Top 4 Dman. They would prefer a Right handed PP Quarterback.

I know we briefly discussed this before but it might be more likely due to the injury that Edmonton calls Detroit on Mike Green.

Green has 1 year left on his contract which ends at the end of next season.

Trade option 1:

Detroit Trades: Mike Green

Edmonton Trades: 2018 1st and Caleb Jones

Reasoning: Green is going to get a nice deal at the Trade deadline but if you can get a whole year of him it may be worth the extra payment.

Trade option 2: Since Edmonton may be a little Hesitant on the first one due to resigning concerns.

Detroit Trades: Mike Green
Edmonton trades: Caleb Jones, Conditional 2nd 2018( Becomes 1st if Edmonton makes conference finals or Green Re-Signs)

Trade Option 3:
Detroit Trades: Mike Green
Edmonton Trades: 2018 1st, Conditional 3rd 2018 (becomes 2nd if he resigns)

Purely picks to take out the concern. Assuming that this is the best offer Detroit can get(similar to how they got less value then expected in Vanek trade)

Thoughts on other options that might be fair or other teams wanting to bid on Green? Would an extension agreed with said team increase his value? Please comment some thoughts and offers.

Man, Green isn't getting a 1st. Are you the Detroit Tankie? Because this is so much like that Shattenkirk saga we just went through it's frightening.

For one that's a bit of an overreaction, I made these proposals trying to test, gauge values and see what people were offering. Yes I am hoping to get a 1st for Green, will we though I'm not sure but I'm optimistic if it's a contender who will have a later 1st in the 20-30 range.

@Shankar, Do you have a different expectation in mind in a Green trade? I'm sure if he resigned or there is an extension in place then a late first would be plausible as a possibility.

Green has a 6mil cap hit so if he's not retained he won't be worth much (for the whole season, at the deadline more) .

I could see Green getting a 1st as a rental next season. I wouldn't personally trade a 1st for him, but I could see it happening.

Oh my, now you're talking about an extended Green, just like Tankie talking about an extended Shattenkirk, even though sign and trades aren't a thing in the NHL.

You want my value of green? Ok, what is a #4/ 5 defenceman who's severely overpaid, has a long injury history, and is clearly declining worth? Hmm, let's see. A mid round pick or middling prospect if DET keeps a lot of that money.

I'd say the Bieksa of a couple years ago that was traded from VAN to ANA was better than Green is now, and they only got a 2nd. That's a comparable I know off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more recent ones too. So don't be expecting anything close to a 1st.

@Hattrick
I'm confortable with Detroit retaining salary on Green if it gets them a better return. However, I'm not sure on how Holland in terms of willingness to retain salary. That will have to remain to be seen.

@Hotguybabes Yeah considering the rental market, I thought Green could likely get a 1st that's why I was suggesting these proposals. However I won't be too disappointed if he gets a 2nd + something small. Just looking to help the rebuild which likely Green wants no part of and won't resign with us unless he absolutely loves it in Detroit.

Too much for Green but Edmonton might have interest in him.

I think targeting Green is a good idea, and hinted at the trade deadline that Green may be a decent fit for a playoff run.

Keeping his current UFA status in mind, a condition on the 1st needs to be implimented as well. If the Oilers get to the Conf final it's a 1st. If the 1st is a draft lotto win, 1st defers to next year.

Contract up in a year fits in perfect with Edmonton's salary cap scheme.
Put those conditions on the first and I think that's a good deal if Detroit deems that they are in full out re-build mode and doesn't diddle around like the nucks thinking they can delay the inevitable and declare full out rebuild needed.

I wouldn't touch Green and his $6M with a 100 foot pole. Especially for a 1st.
Don't need Green one bit.

Can't see Edmonton giving away a 1st and a top d prospect for a year of Green. Oilers could go for a better player that'll better fit age wise.

If Green gets a first, Eberle gets 1st overall.

Ftfa has it right with the value. Might be worth a late first with those conditions. Problem is I never saw that as an option from the OP. I saw the first, but he also asked for Caleb Jones. Or the first and a 3rd that can become a 2nd. Are those 2 options equal? Would any oilers fan put Jones in the deal to keep a 3rd?
