Ottawa uses money freed from Ryan contract to at least make a serious pitch for Tavares

Panarin signs long enough to see if Ottawa is a good place for him or not and gives them a chance to showcase him and find a suitable trading partner if he doesn't want to stay. werenski will be like a poor and Karlsson in Ottawa and by bringing both in it does 2 things

1 - it shows tavarez we are serious about turning things around in Ottawa for the better and want to start winning again

And


2 - even without Tavares it still gives us a good chance to keep Colorado out of top 10 with our pick next season as I'm sure duchene and panarin together would be huge change in offense esp if you throw in stone or zadina on top

Really doubt Tavares leaves the island at all.

If he does, there is zero chance he would do so to go to Ottawa. ZERO.

Columbus says no anyways.

Ryan can do at least 70% of what panarin did for them, sure he's overpayed a bit but the 22nd overall compensates for that. Plus panarin already on record saying he's not going back to Columbus.

And werenski is no EK but he's up there and help in dealing with the loss of EK.

Imo they are the perfect trading partners at this time as Ottawa will need a defenceman and a low to mitigate the loss of Hoffman and possibly EK while columbus will need someone to pick up panarins load offensively plus it gets Karlsson further away from Hoffman. And besides that, no way Dorian takes peanuts for Karlsson like he did for hoffman as the fans will have his head on a stick if he does. Columbus is a winning team that Karlsson would likely be willing to go to as well.

As a Jackets fan, no way. We're not taking Bobby Ryan's contract and essentially losing Panarin for just a late first and to upgrade Werenski for Karlsson. Karlsson is fantastic no doubt, but Werenski is just 20 years old and has great chemistry with Seth Jones, who finished 4th in Norris voting as a 23 year old. The two of them were arguably a top 5 pair in the league this year, and that was with Werenski injured all season.

First of all this is all assuming Karlsson sees Columbus Ohio as his 1st choice to love for the next 9 years. 30 NHL cities which would all be interested on some level if he hits the market. He’s already had his career controlled for him in Ottawa up to this point, he’s not going to sign in Columbus a year earlier than he can atleast explore the thought of playing in Vegas, Edmonton, LA, NY, Toronto, Dallas or other Big market cities just to help the senators maximize his return lol he doesn’t like melnyk right back to the way Alfredsson was treated, I can assume he’s not a fan of Dorion and the way he’s handled (or ignored up to the last 2 weeks) the hell his family was put through. Being loyal and Helping the organization has been replaced by “what’s best for me” and I say good for him.

Karlsson wouldn’t get Werneski straight up he’s 20 and already putting up close to 50 Points on a ELC. Karlsson will get an underwhelming return.

1st of panarin already went on record saying he's done in Columbus at contracts end no matter what so losing him for nothing or as part of a deal that feels in Karlsson it's no question what the smart route would be and it's not letting him walk for nothing.

And vbbvbb you can certainly dream can't you? Karlsson hands down is worth double werenski value and you know it. yes werenski is a great 20 year old but nowhere near Karlsson value on his own. werenski = top 15 to 20 Defence in NHL
Karlsson = top 3 player in world
Huge difference.
