My take on the situation about dealing Phaneuf
Leafs need to make some space for the defence coming up from the marlies Granberg, MacWilliam or Holzer.
Francen and Gardiner are not getting close enough return for what they should so they will be back barring a shocking offer from you leaf hatters.
There seams to be three teams kicking tires at getting Phaneuf Washington, Philadelphia and Edmonton.
Phaneuf for :
From Washington
Evgeny Kuznetsov 1st round pick 2014 (13th overall)
From Philadelphia
Scott Laughton 1st round pick 2014 (17th overall)
From Edmonton
Sam Gagner 1st round pick 2014 (3rd overall)
If there needs to be more then I would go as high as say Greg McKegg in the package with Phaneuf.

All, and I swear you, all 3 teams decline.
We had that so often: Phaneuf is not a bad dman, but he isn't a true #1. He does earn true #1 money, tho, which is why his contract is kind of bad.
Therefore, teams won't give up their blue-chip prospect (Kuznetsov, Laughton) and still add a top 15 range pick. Just no way.
As for the Oilers, they would be dumb to trade away Reinhard/Bennett/Draisaitl or whomever they coudl get at #3 + Gagner for Phaneuf.
IMO, all 3 decline
2.) Phaneuf is a 3rd dman at best but watching him play everyday i'd say he's a 5th dman
3.) Washington might need D but even if they traded Kuznetsov (which they wouldn't) that's a 6 mil salary swing. Like draisaitl said, Phaneuf has a bad contract and would likely jam things up in Washington. I wouldn't take Phaneuf even if the asking price was only Troy Brower.
4.) Phaneuf is not a 3rd dman lol he's easly a great #2 and people who say he's way overpayed with the cap going up and how new contracts getting done a lot of dman well be getting payed a lot and his deal won't look so bad
5.) A lot of people say he's overpayed because he is. Prolly 2 million too much ever year. And he's a 2nd/3rd depending on where he goes. On a team with no d Phaneuf is a 2nd, 3rd on teams like Hawks, Sharks, Kings, and Blues.

Toronto sends phaneuf & Trevor Smith to
New York Islanders
For Griffin Reinhart & 2014 1st round pick 5th overall
1.) Absolutly not from Isles. Reinhart and most likely Dal Colle provide more value to the isles than Pahnuef and Smith.
It has already been stated that Reinhart will not be traded. So unless the return is so unbelievably could that it could not be passed up this would never happen.
2.) Good lord that trade is awful for the isles, doesn't help them at all
3.) Rather have Reinhart than Phaneuf. Nobody even knows who Trevor Smith is.
4.) And TOR fans ask why I don't like most of the trades they're proposing.
5.) Rumor had it phaneuf to San Jose not sure for what thought
6.) This is a posted for the more educated fans who look up the prospects to know who Trevor Smith is. He was with the marlies when they took the texas stars to 7 games in the west AHL playoffs. Who just won the calder cup in 5 games against st john's.
7.) Still a fifth and a fourth overall pick isn't enough for phaneuf who is really a top 4 d, and a good prospect whos potential is max second line, prob third
8.) Maybe you need the education bskiff. Trevor Smith is a 29 year player that has only played a short amount of time in the NHL, I would not call that a prospect but a career minor league. He has no value what so ever in a trade.
In fact Isles already had him, and let him go.
9.) Smith is not a prospect. He is an average AHLer and 4th line NHLer at best. He has little to no value whatsoever

Both Ashton and Adam get a fresh start.
1.) Toronto sends Carter Ashton & Korbinian Holzer to Buffalo for Luke Adam & 5th (Buffalo does not have a 4th) in 2014. Why not?
2.) Ellis instead of Adam.
3.) Just can't see this happening, Ashton is slowly filling in his role an a 4th line player and I think by next year he will be there full time. Maybe we will actually have a 4th line that can generate offence

1.) Trade #1 might work but there is no way that Trade #2 does.
2.) Matt D'Agostini plays for Buffalo.

4.) Leafs say no. Both very bad for Toronto.
5.) Tavares ain't bad haha but the others no way
6.) Since I don't even count the Tavares part of the trade, it's all bad for Toronto.
7.) No way would the leafs want that. They already have 2 goalies
8.) Unloading your garbage won't get you these players.

5.) Just no! The isles are very high on both of these players are are not interested in trading.

7.) I have seen Gardiner play and he's terrible. that's why he was a throw in a couple years ago during a trade.

I'm going to go off the board hear with a proposal for more game for every team to play, three to four games in a row like baseball against the same team. Where the teams will need to use more players from their farm teams. More call ups allowed each year.
1.) Hockey's different from baseball. You can't play 3 nights Ina row

That is fair value. Much better than kadri and Reimer for Kessler that is going around.
