Unless the Habs have a great season and are in the playoffs they aren't a good trading partner with the Jets. They would have to give up one of their untouchable players to get him and they wouldn't do this.

AFAIC Valimaki = Stanley, but Maki has Much Better Scoring + Top-4 Potential whereas Stanley will likely always be a 3LD PK Guy. Both are probably worth about a 2nd Round Pick now, no!?
@Ebsolutely mentioned not liking trade proposals in the thread, but I actually prefer it. Easy to trash proposals, but explaining why and/ or offering a counter proposal is much better IMHO.

I don't believe that minor leaguer, 3rd pairing Valimaki is going to be better that what the Jets have now on their defense. Maybe trading Schmidt and his contract for him would be a trade that the Jets would do, but no way Calgary would do it.

I appreciate you @Ebsolutely! Just calling out those who hit “Unbelievable” or who trash ppls proposals but never offer reasoning or are too afraid to make proposals or counter-proposals. In fairness to @IslandJet, he does and has, I’m just pushing for more discussion which happened
@IslandJet, you don’t know Valimaki or The Flames Development Strategy. Maki had an injury that set him back and Mackey came along and surpassed him.
CGY likes Players to develop longer in the AHL to build up their Size and Confidence. We’ve lost a lot of players and some players probably don’t like being drafted by CGY as a result. We also have an issue of trying to move players from their primary position, but that’s another story.
There’s tons of guys jumping in to the league under 23 and succeeding but unless you’re a Top-60 Pick and Dominating in the AHL, don’t expect to get called up by the Flames, especially if you’re a Defensemen.

If you’re simply looking to dump Schmidt and fill a positional need at the same time, this is a decent proposal.
Watson is a Big Tough Physical Bottom-6 Shot who can play all 3 Forward Positions and Kills Penalties. He doesn’t shoot often, but he does have a 10% SH%
He’s a much better option than Appleton, Rechel and Stenlund for sure. He’s kind of like a Right Shot Zach Sanford. Teams need Bottom-6 roll players like these, not just scorers.
