IDK this maybe dumb but the Pens did this with Brassard and it may work here:
OTT acquires FC
ARI acquires Bobby Ryan
Than
OTT acquires Bobby Ryan (35%-50% retained)
Arizona acquires a pick and decent prospect
The Pens did this with Vegas to help them fit under the cap and it could work with the Sens.
Arizona is known to have trouble staying above the salary floor, so they take on money but they do get a pick and prospect (Vegas took a meh prospect and reaves to retain 2.5 mill from brassard)
Ottawa does this so that they can save money but still keep bobby ryan who can be a good top 9 forward if he stays healthy. The extra money they save can be put into out RFAs this year like ceci and stone and for Karlsson and Duchene next year.
Thoughts?

Why does Ottawa need to do this? They aren't in cap trouble are they?
The reason Pens did it to for in Brassard is because they needed to make room, no?
You're making it seem like Ottawa is in cap trouble, which I don't believe they are. So you're just wanting to do this because you hate he's paid that much and wish it was less, Right? Understandable.

Ottawa has an internal cap and their owner is cheap so that’s why Ottawa would do it.

Technically there are in a bit of a pinch salary wise yup. sure they have 11m free now roughly but EK will demand another 4 to 5 million for his raise and stone will get another 3 to 3.5 million with Duchene getting another 2 million leaving them not much room for free agents or future young guys they'll need to give raises to like Chabot white chlapic brown etc. it makes sense but why not just use Arizona the same way they used Vegas as a means of an end to move Ryan? Arizona eats that cap then they flip Ryan at the new salary to replenish picks and prospects and get rid of the total sum of his contract? At new wage I'm sure they'd get something good for him. at 7.5 no but at 35 to 50% taken off I'm sure they would.

I think that it was because it was during the middle of a season and they didn't want to lose a lot of pieces. Since its now the Offseason I think TBL will be able to let go of certain players that were untouchable during the trade deadline.

Zadina mostly plays RW. If MTL needed a LW/ C they would take Tkachuk.

The thing is, they won't have the cap space to sign a good top 4 defender.
