Oilers trade Nurse, Campbell, Broberg, Puljujarvi, 2024 2nd, 2025 3rd, and 2023 1st for Chychrun, Ritchie, Bjugstad, Gostisbehere, and Vejmelka. No cap space held by either team.

Holland has to buy his way out of Campbell's contract and Nurse's excessive cap hit. This gets him about 6 million in cap space in the end. This results in an over payment but he also needs some bodies so if you can't get skill get bigger. Hopefully ghost gives them the veteran presence they lost when Keith retired?

ARI is looking for the equivalent of 3 1sts, and Broberg and the 1st gets you 2/ 3 of the way there.

But to take those awful contracts with term like Campbell and Nurse would cost a tonne more in compensatory picks and prospects. A team with a 5000 seat arena the next few years isn’t going to do that.

I think there’s a deal to be had between EDM & ARI, but it would more likely be Broberg, a 1st, and some other A-prospect for Chychrun. (A steep ask of any team, and I wouldn’t do it, but EDM is going to have to so something painful during McDavid & Draisaitl’s prime years.

Chicken foot if you actually read any rumours what’s so ever servelli mentioned in his podcast that the Coyotes offered Chychrun for Broberg and 1st and the oilers countered with Pulijujarvi and 1st which the Yotes declined.

VB - your post seems a little edgy, so I hope everything is alright.

I consider myself pretty well read and informed. I'm not sure why you presume I don't "read any rumours", but "Seravalli" is one writer amongst many. I can see why ARI turned down "Puljujarvi" and a 1st. JP has rightfully questioned if the NHL is the right place for him. I suspect he returns to Europe next year, but time will tell.

We'll see what the eventual return is, but it's been said over and over that ARI is looking for 3 pieces, such as 2 1st-rounders and a high end prospect. (I read this most recently from Pierre Lebrun, but the ARI ask has been mentioned repeatedly. )

Anyway, I'm not sure why my opinion seems to bother you so much. I certainly don't give a second thought to whatever you or anyone else writes here. It's all just spit-balling about sports, right? I hope you have a good day man.

Ok - Broberg, a 1st a 2nd and a 3rd might do it for Chychrun, but I'm guessing Arizona is going to get better offers.

If I'm Arizona, there's no way I'm not doing that trade. You're tying more than 14.25M in overpaid players for the next 5 years, and 9.25M for the next 7 with Nurse. On top of that you're giving out a solid rental option in Gostisbehere who could possibly fetch a 1st at the deadline. Nurse is a good player, but he's about 3M overpaid and Campbell is not a 5M goalie at the moment at all. He's barely putting NHL numbers. Arizona will want that cap space in a few years, they have a lot of young players that will have their ELC expiring (Cooley, Guenther, Geekie, Soderstrom, Lamoureux, to name a few...)

You want Chychrun? Fine - give Broberg and the picks and it might happen. You want to clear cap space? You're going to need to add a lot more than that.

This proposal gives the Coyotes a defenseman that many would consider better than Chychrun but more expensive. the picks and Broberg compensate for leaving Holland with cap space to fix most of his roster problems.

If Holland could pull this off he would then be considered an excellent GM. His history is no risk, methodical and slow. Time to show the world what he can really do. If not McDavid will walk.

TUGBOAT: Kenny Holland IS “considered to be an excellent GM”. He won 4 Cups with DET, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020.

Uh not sure why there is a debate here as it was said Broberg and a 1st was offered and was turned down by the oilers….

8.) 14 Jan 2023 08:34:15
I think Broberg/ Holloway might be non starters. I’m guessing they’d change targets and go after someone cheaper.

Leafs trade Kallegrin, Kerfoot, Krall and Hollowell for Canuck's Schenn and Martin.

Gives Canucks two defense prospects, a BC born roster player, and a proven backup tender while Leafs get a physical defenseman and an Ontario born backup tender.

TO sends Abruzzee or Anderson, Shaw or Steeves, Kerfoot, and Robertson for Arizona's Crouse and Ritchie both with 50% cap retained. This trade could be run through a third team to reduce cap hit even more.

TO sends Hollowell and Clifford to Canucks for Schenn with 50% retained and a fifth pick.

Leafs get veterans with size, and numbers off the protected list while giving up good prospects and roster players.

Are you pinball?

What’s with all the disgraced posters assuming new identities? Moxnix and his lackey were easily spotted, but Pinball has no shame, so I’m thinking this is VB or Bossman.

I am not pinball.

I actually would like to see the Leafs try this with Murray, Robertson, Hollowell, Kerfoot, Abruzee, 2023 1st, and Neimela or Sandin?

Throw Schenn in and substitute Steeves or Abruzze for McCann and add Hollowell and it is a deal.

This give Leafs two more defense men without taking anyone out. Who do they replace? I like Schenn but you got Timmins, Lilijgren, Holl and Brodie on the right side and Gio, Reilly, Sandin, and Brodie on the left. That is seven guys for six spots not counting Mete and Benn. Schenn would be excellent if there was room for him. How do you take Holl out with the way he has been playing?

Take Knies out of this and substitute Robertson and you are closer. I would sooner have Mantha.
